Search this forum for details on how to get a Setanta Card. I think you can request one for free under the BAI scheme and they have to give it to you. Its a London region card (as long as you dont ring Setanta to activate it).

BAI Sound and Vision scheme funds some programming on Setanta (http://www.bai.ie/?page_id=92). In return, Setanta have to make these programmes freely available to anyone in Ireland.
They do this through an FTV card which is an activated Sky card. If you dont activate, you have a London FTV card.

You can contact setanta via their website to request a ftv card. Just state you want the card under the BAI 'Sound & Vision' scheme. They usually respond fairly quick via email

Just got this reply back from Setanta.

Thank you for contacting Setanta Sports.

We have received your request for a FTA viewing card under the BAI Sound and Vision Scheme.

The BAI is the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Setanta broadcast a number of documentaries in funded by them, examples include The Club, An Exile’s Home in the Bronx, Man on A Mission and Yes I Can.

Please be advised that Setanta Sports is a subscription service and if you wish to view our fantastic sporting content then please contact us to discuss the subscription package options available. You will NOT receive our sporting content under the Sound and Vision scheme.

We are happy to order a card for you however this card will only function in a compatible SKY set top box and if you have an existing Sky viewing card then you will already have access to the content we broadcast in conjunction with the BAI Sound and Vision Scheme. We must also advise that if we request a card for you and you do have an existing Sky card then this may cause loss of service on your current viewing card.

We have the best premium live sport on TV including top flight Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League football, the best golf action from the Masters and the Open exclusively live, deferred coverage of the Rabodirect Pro 12 and action from the GAA.

If you wish to proceed with ordering the FTA card we would need you to contact our customer service department on the number listed below.

We are open from 9:30am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Slightly worried about the line "We must also advise that if we request a card for you and you do have an existing Sky card then this may cause loss of service on your current viewing card."

I have a Sky+ box that i intend on using as a FTA box when i get the new HD upgrade. If i order this white UK card could it cause a problem with my current viewing card?

Yeah, the loss of service is when you take your current card out :pac:
Dont worry about it. There's no issue with the setanta cards.

Anyone got a channel listing of what you can get with the FTV card? (As opposed to just using a Sky+ box without any card?

Yes but only with a valid sub (recording)

Not sure if you get the other channels mentioned.

ah ok, I fail to see the advantage of this card over a plain FTA box to be honest or freesat box with guide?? Other than making use of a spare sky box

The card is useful to Sky subscribers as it will get the ITV regions which can be recorded via the blue button and if you're lucky enough to get a UTV region card the ITV channels will be listed on the EPG.

If you're not a Sky subscriber I cant see any good reason to have this card other than getting the UK FTA channels on an old Sky box

Don't understand this as only 2 ITV regions appear on EPG in any Sky box i.e. the region to which the card is registered to and ITV London. Otherwise all other ITV regions have to be added under 'other channels' and can only be recorded by connecting to an external device e.g. Video/DVD recorder. Think you're referring to all BBC regions which do appear on EPG. Also what do you mean record by the blue button?

I have all the ITV regions (1, 2, 3 and 4) together with the + channels and 5, 5 USA etc on the EPG. I have a UTV region card

Thats exactly what I mean Mr Pedantic.

Just for the record I never mentioned anything about regional variations other than UTV so do please keep up at the rear :D

I am not being pedantic. The ITV regions are known exactly as regions and ITV1/2/3/4 are channels. ITV regions are the regional variations of ITV. You're the one who is confusing channels with regions.

The Sony etc channels are not available without decryption which this card provides ....... so are not available without it on a generic receiver.

With the card the extra channels are available without sub.
Seems like a pretty good reason to me ;)

I got one of these cards about 6 months ago.I have a Dreambox 7020s,the Sony tv channels are fairly ****e(ads every 5 minutes)Motors tv good if you like that kind of thing (I dont). The way I looked at it was something for free, the card stopped working 2 months ago,I presume I have to leave it in the neighbours Sky Box over night, but could"nt be bothered.Slainte.

I wouldn't make that assumption ....... mine continues to work without going back in a Sky box.

It did have a couple of glitches early on, but withdrawing the card and giving the connections a wipe seemed to cure whatever was wrong with it.

It has been in an Ariva 120 since I received it.

Do Setanta have to activate the card after you receive it to get the extra channels or do you just need to insert it in the receiver slot?

I had to ring Setanta to activate the card, as I recall.

No Setanta dont have to activate the card,if they do it changes from a UK one to an Irish one.

If I insert the card in the receiver then the LFC TV channel clears but Setanta Ireland remains scrambled.

Setanta Ireland is a subscription channel. It only clears when they show something funded by the broadcast fund mentioned previously on this thread
