In the process of being re-painted and touched up, balcony decking looking over the 18th has all been replaced etc. In discussion with caterers etc. at the moment and plan is to open up the members bar on the ground floor as well with a members games room etc. I get the impression the keys have only been recently handed over to the new owners based on the number of workmen around the place.

Really glad to hear it is out of NAMA - (a) because its a great course that deserves to do well and (b) I seriously object to the way NAMA uses public (i.e. our) money to compete unfairly with "legit" clubs. One less such is very welcome news.

In any case a properly run and thriving Palmerstown is a great addition and will ask some serious questions of lesser tracks in the area.

After been reading all these posts and all seems very interesting, I be interested in maybe joining here if its up to standard, I am a member up in kilcock at the moment and I wont be returning at the end of December.

I would also be up for a round out there if anyone is going out ?.. I am free tomorrow from 11.30 am 9/8/13

Also how much is the direct debt per month ?

I had talked myself out of joining due to the forty minute drive being a bit too far. albeit to a top top course.
I am feeling very jealous of all the new guys joining up and am having doubts again.
It would really help if someone, especially the new members had something bad, hopefully very bad, to say about the place

Any news on getting GUI affiliation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭pcasso

The pro said that they had thirty nine new members signed up last week.
With the rate of lads from hear joining I would be surprised if they don't hit the magic fifty mark very soon if they haven't done so already

Is the driving range open? Last time I was there it was shut and overgrown with weeds.

Others may have more information but based on the experience at Lisheen it might take a few months. I think they will need to tick quite a few boxes - constitution, committees and that sort of thing. Lisheen began the process with a core of a couple of hundred members and the structures from the previous South County and it still took a while.

Ah yeah I know I just meant the whole s-county/lisheen ordeal not just getting affiliation.

They seemed to be cutting it last week though I am not sure it was quite ready for use

Played here this morning with a mate to see if it is worth the jump,

place is in good condition, some tee boxes have just been re-seeded and are a bit patchy but nothing major. Not a bad hole on the course and a great test of golf I have to say. Alot of work going on in the club house to get it up to scratch and Graham the pro seems sound. Its 20 minutes less commute too for me so as you guessed it I left with a application form in my pocket for next year:D

Good to hear. What did they charge you as a matter of interest? Clubs will usually offer a complimentary round if they think you are serious about joining.

Afraid those days are gone, way too many tyre kickers just chancing their arms so clubs seem to have stopped doing it and just give a discount. Can't really blame them, have to admit I've done my fair share of checking out different clubs for membership over the years and didn't mind paying a fee. Usually they just drive you around in a buggy to check facilities and condition of course.

Not everywhere. If they think you are serious about joining (or even bringing a society), many clubs will still offer a free round or a deal. I was just wondering how aggressively PH are promoting it. I have no problem paying for my golf!

P.S. I see there is a section on the website to request a viewing visit.

Sorry mate, not meant to offend. I've found in the last few years that when orgainising my work society events (40 plus players each time), clubs now give you a 4 ball after the event and are very against offering a free round prior (especially the good ones), seems strange alright but just what I've observed. When I went to check out PH, he offered the reduced rate and considering the membership rate is so cheap, that equated to more than half a months subs.
The visit seems to be just that, a visit to look around the club house, facilities and take a walk around the course to check the condition of it.

Have they started work on the bunkers. Only real thing letting the course down atm. Played Killeen a few weeks ago after Palmerstown, and for courses of similar grand ambitions and settings, the bunkers in Killeen were a dream, Palmerstown compacted and tough.
