    Hi all,

So I completed a few driving lessons in Carrick-on-Shannon, in order to prepare for my driving test. But my driver instructor said to me "Make sure, you practice yourself" So what I'm looking for is the route(s) of the Carrick-on-Shannon driving test. I had a google on this subject and I also asked in the region (leitrim) forum, still no luck though. So I'm hoping someone here can assist me.

    Thanks

    BW-

Your instructor should be able to advise you on routes. As for your instructors advice to practise yourself, I would imagine that is practise with an accompanying driver to get some additional experience without an instructor beside you.

My advice, if your test is coming up. Get out as much as possible, and cover the area around the test centre. A lesson with your instructor could be beneficial to get a better idea as to what routes they will take you on.

Hi Alan, Thanks for the reply, Yup that's what I ment indeed.

That's another thing though, At the moment I'm getting my dad, to come with me when I go out and practice my driving, (it's a slow and painful process though, but getting there) Do you think though, should I book my test now and practice as much as possible or should I practice a lot and then book my test in say about 2 months or so? I was thinking, but I'm just not sure which is the better thing to do.

Thanks again for the reply Alan, much appreciated. :)

Book the test is my advice. You'll practise harder, and be more determined to progress quicker if you have a date looming.

The route generally varies slightly with each tester but the main things that they do eg 3 pt turn etc happen in only two or three parts of the town.
Reversing around a corner generally happens either up summerhill beside the old hospital on eitherside of the road (two ideal junctions / turn offs) or at the estate between the eircom depot and the small shop on the way out to the train station. The hill start is generally on the hill beside gings pub just after the bridge. The three point turn is usually up park lane or in an industrial estate beside aldi on the dublin road.

After that its a lottery. Best advise to you is to apply for the test, do a quick lesson before the test with your instructer and head on out.

I passed recently and used to follow the cars around when they went out on the test.I waited outside the test centre and followed one when it took off.Very useful exercise.

That is actually a good idea, I never though about that. Thanks very much. :)

    Hi,

Has anyone had their test in Carrick recently? If so could you share your test route and where you did the 3 point turn/reverse/hill start?

For a hill start at Gings, would the tester ask you to stop at Gings so that when moving off you'd need the handbrake?
