Heading over in a few weeks and I was looking forward to checking out some fights.
Are the big venues the place to go or are there any interesting smaller venues?
One thing that annoyed me was that they forced foreigners to pay something like ten times the Thai entrance price. This is absolutely outrageous. How true is it? If I turned up in a thai boxing hoody looking less like a tourist could I pay the normal rate?

Well yeah you have to pay like a fiver instead of a euro. In fairness to the big stadiums though you get to see what would be the equivalent of headline fights on any show over here... well most shows over here, the bar has been raised somewhat as of late, thanks Martin.

I think the likes of MBK 'stadium' is free, which I think its just a ring set up in the car park of the MBK shopping center in Bangkok.

Try 50 quid Pat. Lumpinee ringside is 2000 baht for foreigners. To be honest literally everything outside of franchised shops (7-eleven, Carre-four, etc.) has the falang tax on it. Nothing you can do about it either. Well, except haggle at the stalls but not at the stadiums.

It will be my first time in the country and it is a disgraceful attitude to have towards foreign tourists. Really putting me off the country before i've even left.

Suck it up and pay the falang price im afraid. Lumpinee is probably the most expensive in terms of being ripped off, the temples etc were all pretty cheap really. Went to Lumpinee twice when i was over there, worth the price imo, some good fights, great atmosphere, its where every Muay Thai fighter wants to fight and if your a fan you would be mad to miss out on it.

I would suggest two things if you go to Lumpini, firstly DON'T go ringside as its totally away from all the atmosphere and no fun at all and secondly watch EXACTLY what the bastards on the door TRY to charge you as they can be right bastards with prices if they think you're a dozy farang!!

Second what all the lads have said about Channel 7, great fights and free in :)

I've been to Lumpinee and Rajadamnern a few times, mostly in the second class seats, once at ringside. Ringside is not really worth it, the atmosphere isn't great. Second class is a mix of foreigners and what I figured were Thais running books or taking bets. View is good, you can move seats (bench) easily or walk around for a different angle.

At Lumpini I usually bought tickets at the official hatch. Once I got them from one of the girls with programmes out front. I wanted second class but she was really pushing ringside and after a bit she discounted them to almost second class prices. If you want ringside and are willing to haggle that might be the way to go.

Can your gym if they are in the know not get you the "normal" price? Id assume youd have to be training with them for a bit first.

I've gotten in for free before, with Eminent air, as the owner also promotes there. But that was for a daytime show and not exactly the cream of the crop. Still awesome mind you.
