I'm looking for some feedback on my diet and fitness regime and answers as to why I'm not losing any weight >:<

    I'm 5"11 female 10 stone 6 pounds.

My diet is fairly rigid. I can safely say I eat the same thing every day except for one cheat meal at the weekend. I eat porridge with honey twice a day, I have scrambled eggs with brown bread for dinner or an omelette and I have a chicken and cheese wrap for lunch(if I have lunch). I also drink diet coke by the bucket load :/

I have recently started intermittent fasting. I began about 6 weeks ago fasting once a week for 24 hours at a time. As I haven't seen any results I began twice a week fasting last week.

I run about 8 km 5 days a week and do a weights class usually three times a week.

    So any ideas?? Anyone?!

    Your diet is crap.

You are probably eating more than you think/admit.

You probably arent working out as hard/ as intensely as you think/admit either.

First port of call is to kill the diet coke. Regardless of the sugar free crap they maintain your still getting an insulin response from it which is killing any hope of fat loss.

OP ditch the the diet coke. I was fairly hooked on it for years I couldn't even go a couple of days without buying a big bottle. the stuff is horrible, I gave it up since new years and haven't looked back. drinking water with a slice of lemon is far better and refreshing. if I get bored of it I have the odd mi-wadi no added sugar. also the odd tea or coffee.

I found diet coke would have me feeling like crap, I felt dehydrated and it probably made me crave sugary foods also..

trust me ditch it and you'll see for yourself! you could limit it to when going to the cinema or the odd takeout but leave it at that!

unless you know your calorie intake, vs how many calories you need to lose weight then you'll not lose weight.

Go to the stickies and work out how many calories you need each day. eat less than that and you will lose weight.

You are probably eating more calories than you think you are, especially on your cheat day.

use and app to keep track. start to measure your food intake and write everything you eat down.

Hey there, firstly I can relate on both levels! I had the oul diet coke addiction a few years ago too and it took spending a fortune on my teeth to make me give it up. I had to go cold turkey and haven't had it in 3 years - I think it's the only way to go to be honest!

We're also around the same height- I'm 5'10' but I'm 72kg (in around 11stone mark) and given my own size I really don't think you could be overweight at 10stone 6'. Could the issue be that you really just don't have much/if any weight to lose? Would you look at introducing weight training? Also if it's a specific area like your belly that's bothering you that could be down to bloating - I honestly find that once I cut out wheat/refined carbs my belly shrinks in days and it looks like I've lost half a stone when I haven't at all - it's just deflated!

I think you probably need to mix things up a bit. If you eat the same thing day in day out your system gets used to it. It's the same with excercise. There's no challenge if you're doing the same excercise routine day in day out.

Diet coke will not effect insulin levels.

To be honest OP, it sounds like you don't really have any weight to lose.
Your BMI is 20.4 which is well within the healthy range.

Couple of questions - how much honey do you put on your porridge? Honey seems to be regarded as healthier than regular sugar, but its just another form of sugar. Also, the chicken in your wrap - is it a fresh fillet of chicken, or is it breaded - those breaded fillets have a lot of unnecessary calories? How much cheese, there's lots of calories in cheese.

Also, you seem to eat a lot carbs and very little veg. Porridge is good, but why eat it twice a day? Instead of a chicken and cheese wrap, how about you turn it into a chicken salad to incorporate more veg. Instead of scrambled eggs with bread, how about eggs with some stir fried mushrooms, onions, courgette etc.. You could also make an omelette with the veg in it too. Do you eat fish at all?

I see this a lot here,
Female says, I'm a size ten and I want to lose some weight
Boards answer, your perfect you don't need to lose weight
Male says, I want more definition in my abs so I want to lose a little weight
Boards answer, whatever advice that might be relevant.

It's nice and all that boards members don't seem to want to put pressure on females to lose the weight but I'm sure it would be nice for them to get advice at least on how to get their body less flabby and fat looking

Looks like you can stick to an eating plan pretty well that's good news.
The bad news is your diet is fairly poor.
I eat porridge with honey twice a day,Carbs
I have scrambled eggs with brown bread for dinner or an omelette eggs good the bread is more carbs and this isn't a dinner
and I have a chicken and cheese wrap for lunch(if I have lunch). Shop bought? those ones are pretty poor quality and you should have lunch if your having a measly dinner
I also drink diet coke by the bucket load :/
I think by now you should be realising that this isn't helping

    Where are the vegtables?

I get what you're referring to, but in this instance she is 5'11' and 10 stone 6 - there is not a hope in a cold hell that she is overweight. I'm not being nice for the craic, it's actually a bit of a chore for me, so trust me I'm not saying it just to make the OP feel better.

This is why I suggested weight training and also referenced bloating etc. Would you not agree?

This I would agree with except for the porridge part; nothing wrong with porridge IMO..nutritious, yummy and keeps you full for a good while.

Ok! Got lots of things there...
Ya my diet is crap... I was expecting that and it is justified. Somehow I actually didn't realise that it is all carbs I eat!? I haven't idea when beg and fruit disappeared. So that is defo one thing to work on anyway.

The diet coke.... Hmmmmm it will take a lot more will power with that one.

It's just something I noticed on other threads too. I'm a fair bit off 5'11" so wouldn't be too sure about what weight is good for that height but I know that two people the same height and weight can look totally different.

I would completely agree. There also might be something to do with feeling like crap from eating a crap diet which makes the brain think you look crapper/fatter than you do look.

Porridge is good, but twice a day? Also the calories in it could vary wildly depending on how much of what you put in, personally I prefer eggs but will have porridge on the odd day.

    So new diet thoughts:

Breakfast: Porridge (with honey and l.f milk)
Lunch: fruit salad or omelette with veg no cheese
    Dinner: fish with veg

I'm not a big snacker at all so that's not a problem, neither is eating the same thing day in day out! My fitness does need a kick start so I'm looking at getting back into competitive running.

The diet coke... I will work on.

    The input is greatly appreciated!!

Fat isn't necessarily a bad thing by the way. I know we are bombarded with the idea all the time that low fat is the way, but we actually need good quality fat as part of our diet. That looks a lot better, but don't be afraid of some full fat milk with your porridge if you enjoy it or a bit of brie with your lunch if you like cheese.

I'd also suggest throwing a couple of handfuls of nuts (like almonds for example) into the mix every day, and get into the habit of getting 2+ litres of water down on a daily basis.

Fat isn't bad and eating fat won't make you fat. :) Losing weight is a matter of taking in less calories than your maintenance level when activity levels are taken into account. And given your starting weight to height ratio, you'll probably notice a significant change by eating well and exercising (don't forget the weights) while keeping calories in and around maintenance.

    Best of luck!

That's a huge improvement, the one thing is the fruit salad might leave you hungry it might be helped by a dolop of greek or natural yoghurt(flavoured yoghurt means sugar) and maybe a few nuts or seeds.
Well done, it's nice to have someone that appreciates the input!

Genuinely didnt know about the artificial sweetener and lack of insulin response. Id be fairly sceptical though. I read Marks Daily Apple quite frequently too. Interesting.

Hanley said it though. Best avoided.

Good work OP. Stick to the new plan for a while and see how you get on.

I make my porridge with water every morning & add some blueberries & strawberries to it to add sweetness. You could try that once to see if you like it? I know it isnt for everyone but just throwing it out there!

Best of luck with the new diet!

The OP didn't specify what size she is. She could be a size 6 for all we know, but I would bet a month's salary she is not overweight and doesn't look overweight.
She didn't say anything about looking flabby or fat, only about losing weight.
I'm not arguing btw, just pointing out that I only went on what she told us.

That was me paraphrasing from other threads because it's not just this one I've noticed it in, the actual words didn't have much to do with the op who could be the skinny fat type and probably wants to look better naked, which there's nothing wrong with asking for advice on how to get to a body they feel comfortable in(mental health issues not included before anyone go's on about that) I don't see what's wrong with someone male or female who already looks good to ask for advice on how to look better, just saying your fine is pretty useless, a more constructive way of going about it is to say stuff about focusing on body fat and tape measures.

I'm not going to go on about it any more because I don't like to derail a thread too much on something that's just an observation.
