VW Golf Mk4 - Central Locking & Alarm

    Hi all,
    I recently bought a '98 MK 4 Golf, 1.4 Litre S.

When I bought it, I knew the alarm did not work, and that the car needed to be opened with the key. When I press the button on the Key fob, the little red light on it flashes but the car will not lock or unlock.

The major issue however is the central locking. When I lock the car from the outside, only the drivers door will shut. I physically have to go around the car and press down all the buttons myself. When inside the car, if I press the lock button all of the passenger doors will lock for a second and then pop back up, the drivers door lock does not even budge. Also, the right hand side back passengers door is now stuck and will not open at all. When I pull the handle the button comes up but the door will not open. When I let go, the button goes back down.

Could be a number of reasons.
Maybe the keyfob won't work because the mechanics in one of the doors isn't working right and the alarm can sense it. Or it's some wiring issue.
Take it to an car electronics shop and let them have a stab at it. They should be able to test the electronics and see if the rear door won't open because of a wiring issue or mechanical issue.

After more internet research it may be down to cracked solders on the locking modules. I'll check that. If not i'll go to a pro.

    Thankyou.

About soldering, I have a clock in my car that didn't work and the solder on the board looked ok. I asked the shop to resolder anyway and lo, the clock now works.
So even if solder looks good have them reheat anyway, just in case.
