Ok guys over the next few months I will be insuring my bikes as I will soon be the owner of a new €3000 bike. Must insure this as i don't want the scanerio of crashing it and destroying and being out of pocket by the end of it. My other bike is currently worth approx €300 -500 but i bought 2 mid range racing wheels for it which were 350 euro so I am I assume its worth a bit more than above price? I want to know what would be average cost to insure both bikes and any recommendations?

    Thanks

I've my bike insured for €2500 and my dad's bike is insured for €1100 - both for €70/year (combined) with FBD. Cyclesure are about x3 this amount, so I'd recommend contacting your house insurer first and see if they'll do you a deal.

I should also mention this covers theft as well as accidental damage. Personal accident and public liability is provided by Cycling Ireland for €25/year I believe.

If I am not mistaken and unless explicitly specified, house insurances with bicycle as contents do not cover damage occurred in competitions.

correct. I have my bikes insured under the house policy for theft and accidental damage, but it specifically excludes any form of competition.

House policy will only cover up to 300 usually and will screw you over if you claim (I know from my own experience). As others said FBD is good value.

mine was about 20% of the value of the bike!, so after 2 years I dropped it

it will depend on your individual policy and a lot of other factors. My own policy specifically covers the bikes full specified value, but there is an excess, and no doubt, your premium would go up in the event of a claim.

Sorry I should have clarified, yes by default up to 300€ and then you can specify the value to be covered. I claimed for my bike last year (300€ back) and then they raised the policy by the same amount! I shopped around and got a better deal.
