Hurling Man - A breed apart

    EAMONN SWEENEY – 07 APRIL 2013

in the first half last Sunday at Walsh Park, Galway corner-forward Davy Glennon slipped past his marker, Waterford corner-back Stephen Daniels, and looked set to score a goal. Which was when Glennon hauled him down. Over in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny's Colin Fennelly suffered a similar fate as he cut inside Cork full-back Brian Murphy.

Should I be embarrassed if I agree with everything that hurling man does and thinks?

Penalties are harder to score in Hurling than in Football? My arse. Sounds like the journalist has a massive chip on his shoulder. I think he could do with looking at the number of penalties awarded in today's Football games and maybe reassess his opinion of "this blatant rugby-tackling of an opponent through on goal isn't anything like as common in football", which is so not true.

The punishment in hurling for even fouling someone and giving away a 21 in a central position can be seen from last night's game between Limerick and Dublin as both Declan Hannon and Paul Ryan goaled from such situations. And that is with 5 on the line. 3 players are on the line for penalties in hurling, and the conversion rate is still higher than football.

That article really annoyed me. I think the worst thing about this is he had to give some image of anyone who disagrees with him on the subject as some sort of ignorant 'bog warrior', clearly with a lower intellect. Absolute tripe.

Not Eamon Sweeney's finest hour. Not particularly funny or insightful.

And I'm usually a fan of his column.
