Hi, I'm 26 and I drink every night. I need to quit, I'm drinking about 8 cans a night and sometimes a bottle of wine too. I'm not one for meetings or anything. I'm not drinking tonight and wrote this sober.

    Can anybody give me advice?

Yo this ain't a place to get medical/legal advice. I got a private message from a mod giving me a warning. If I were you I'd take this down.

But if I were an alcoholic I would join one of those alcoholic clubs. Watch the movie "flight" denzel Washington will guide you to the right path.

Firstly congrats on the bravery to post and for not drinking tonight

You've recognised you're drinking too much which is step 1.

I'm just trying to wonder how deep the problem is. Do you wake up wondering how long till you can have a drink? Does it affect work or relationships? How do you feel if you run out of alcohol? Have you turned down invitations to social occasions because if you go it'll interfere with your drinking??

I ask because it can be a very easy habit to slip into to drink every night and sometimes you just need to break a habit. Don't buy it and you can't drink it etc. However if its all consuming (and 8 cans is a lot) when there's a deeper issue and my first suggestion would be to visit your gp and say exactly what you've said here.

    Well done for posting.

Hi firstly well done for realising and admitting you have a problem. I think you should get it touch with an addiction counsellor in your area. There are plenty around, a lot free of charge. Gp first though. But you have taken the first step already admitting it and now you need to speak to a professional who can guide you on the right path towards a sober lifestyle and teach you methods of avoiding the pitfalls that lead you to temptation. Get on touch with your gp he can probably point you in the right direction. I wish you all the luck in the world.

I don't think about it during the day, just a nightly routine of binge drinking. I can never have 1 or 2... it's always to excess. Usually can't remember going to bed.

really not good. Do you know the reason behind it? Is it boredom? Are you trying to block something out? Are you incredibly stressed and it helps you sleep? Do you play any sport? Go to a gym? Anything to keep active and busy and out of the house??

Maybe it's boredom, I live in a rural area and never go to the pub, don't really have a social life.
