Was at the mart recently and heifers not calved appear cheap, is there a reason?

    What part of the country?

Nobody has grass or silage to spare for extra mouths round here anyway.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

A suckler cow really should be only considered cheap at under €1000. They are way over priced for the return they give.

I would only consider a suckler cheap if she is under hook price

We've bought 7 suckler cows with calf at foot in the last 5 weeks. All young cows with good calves. Prices ranged from a second Calver Limousin with a 3 week old heifer calf @ 1150 to a Limousin with 4 month old twin bulls @ 1500. Calves are well done - you could wean them. Think there's great value out there at the moment. Some of the culls that were sold in the back end more than paid for a quality cow with calf at foot this spring.

Dangerous bitches to have around the place. No wonder they're cheap.

being at a few breeding sales and bought a good few animals for finishing, there doesnt seem to be much interest on the suckling front at the moment and I wouldnt blame them

    Carrigallen and Elphin.

There have been several sales in both which were clearance sales for farmers over the past few weeks.
