We are thinking of investing in a new disc rotary mower this year if possible for mainly cutting rushes,or hay or silage fields if needs be on our farm which can be rough in places.I'm wondering what make and models are out there and which are the best in terms of a quality, money, performance, and maintenance for what u get? Any help or knowledge are greatly appreciated.

If the funds can stretch, you can't go wrong with a Krone mower. Well built, strong and reliable.

We have a Galfre FR/D165 5 and a half foot disc mower for the past 12 years. It cuts about 40 acres silage/hay and another 20 for rushes/cleaning fields etc. At the time the dealer showed us similar Claas mowers and told us Galfre built the mowers for Claas, and that they were more or less the same. I don't know if they were exactly the same or not but we have been delighted with hours. Some of the ground can be rough enough but the machine is still in very good shape. As long as it is properly maintained I don't see any need for replacing it for a long time to come. It was a good deal cheaper than the main brands but has been fine for our needs and for the type of usage you plan on I think it would be well worth a look. Let us know what you go for eventually.
