I thought this very long flight by SIA had been abandoned a few years back, but here it is at FL350 about six hours into its eighteen hrs. endurance.

I can almost feel the excruciating jet-lag watching it pass over Ireland with about twelve hours to go!

Its an amazing flight, nearly a full day in the air. Their canning it in the Autumn. Presumably the reason they can;t make it work is the fuel guzzling A345 they have on it. It might be a goer again in future with the B777-8X or the A359R

The range of flight paths they can take is amazing too. They can and do go directly over the north pole sometimes

The blurb is wrong as the prevailing winds would affect the Singapore Newark flight if it routed over Europe.

New Zealand fly from AUC to London and onwards to LAX before heading home over the Pacific.

Not sure what you mean by that. Air New Zealand fly via LAX out and back. They also do a Star Alliance via SFO (Virgin) and HKG (Cathay) and a One World via PEK (BA).

Sorry what I meant is that Air New Zealand flies round the world via HKG/SIN, LHR, LAX and back home over the Pacific.

I'm curious as to why the flight path seems to be so varied every time? Surely this must effect the journey time? I've never seen it go over Ireland before.

it needs to find the most optimum winds, these days the winds will bring it over Dublin, if i ran the same flight plan next week, the optimum routing might not come over Ireland.

It's also 20 hours flying time on the way back? Ouch, I don't ever fancy being a passenger on that, unless they offered full first class A380 suites or something. Even then I would be hesitant.

Longest leg we do in my world is 10.5hrs and tbh irrespective of augmented crew etc I am fughed at the far end re jet lag.....can you imagine how's these guys feel? They wouldnt know their ars@ from their head on their days off and I suspect it's just a 24hr layover in EWR for them.

HKG is actually on their own metal. (Cathay are one world anyway)

Didnt think Star Alliance carriers could have a codeshare with one world carriers? But know nothing about that PEK route.

I saw this over Dublin one monday morning a few weeks back. My eyes nearly popped when i looked up the details . In fact, altho ive been a spotter for 35 years, since i got Flightradar on my phone, i am stunned by what actually comes over ireland . One day , i saw a Lufthansa A330,from Frankfurt to Bogota , and as for scandanavia to the canaries, there are several every day. God bless Flightradar !!!

Oh dear! I should know Cathay are One World. Work beside them evry day. Air New Zealand will sell you flights to LHR via PEK. You fly PEK to LHR on the BA038. I suppose sharing it is a bit like Aer Lingus..I think... you can have a BA, AA, UA flight number with the EI, Of course now we are a week into the summer schedule so routes may have changed.
