Lot of our ground can usually only be got out on once with fertiliser as wettish ground.Dry now with year thats in it.Wondering would people think it might be an idea to try spreading fertiliser in two halves this year as soil temps so low....need to get grass growing so going to cover around 30 plus acres tomorrow hopefully. Will be putting out 18-6-12.Could go out again then in June with more just in case there wasnt great response this month.Appreciate anyones thoughts.

We're thinking along similar lines... Who is to know what will prove to be correct

As regards grass response I have always kinda wondered what people with good dry land eg ground you can drive a car/jeep on most of year would find most efficient way to get response to fertiliser......would they spread lightly several times a year....Im talking from a sheep or beef or suckling type system perspective.

Would be a fan of the little and often approach, go with a bit after each grazing to keep the thing moving.

Put out 3 tonne of 18 6 12 on just under 40 acres so all we need now is bit of rain and proper sun:).......wettish ground is really only dry on top though....left a couple of bits of tracks but happier to have stuff out and can go back again later in yr if needs be.

Some dairy farmers spread the whole grazing area once a month instead of going out every time a paddock is grazed.
Teagasc did a trial on it and the results showed a better response from fertilizer.
