At that sort of price I reckon an online shop like Canyon or Planet X is the way to go for value.

At the higher end of your budget you can get the Canyon Ultimate CF 9.0 which comes with a full ultegra groupset, Mavic Kryrium Elite Wheels, a ritchie finishing kit and Selle Italia saddle at €2199.

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3085

Then you have Planet X, who recently launched their new RT58-S model, it's based on their flagship RT58 which is a cracking frame but it's got a slightly taller top tube so it's less aggressive and more comfortable over a longer distance than the original. Comes with a SRAM Force gorupset and it's €1775. You can upgrade it to SRAM RED and still have it for less than €2000 as well, if you want :D.
    Lovely looking bike.

    http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBPXRT58FOR/planet_x_rt58_s_bike

Normally I'd be pimping the Ribble Stealth here so I'll do that now :D

Gorgeous frame and you can spec it with full ultegra and Mavic Ksyrium Elite S wheels for €2157

    http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/bbd/road-track-bike/ribble-r872?part=BB13RIBR872&sub=conf_BBRC&bike=1#Groupset

Then there is the option of having a look on sites like Chainreaction and wiggle and seeing what they have on sale, you could get very lucky and get a really well speced bike with a massive discount because it's last years model.

Check out www.roseversand.com. Rose make nice bikes with good kit.

Check out Dolan Bikes too. They make nice stuff.

You'll have to write a new thread letting us know how you lost all that weight...

Ribble stealth with Ultegra Di2 is just a shade over 2k. Mighty fine value considering you'd pay 12-1500 for the group set alone in some places.

I used a mixture of diet and exercise let me preface this by saying I stopped smoking in October (40 a day) put on about 2 stone. After Christmas I stood on the scales and it wouldn't weigh me just got ERR on the screen and the scales goes to 22 stone so I said time to make changes started walking doing 4 miles a day nearly killed me starting as my back was just not able for it.Also went to motivation weight loss clinics found the one to one thing great no way I could do the group weigh in thing just not my scene kept upping the exercise as the weight came down I was doing 8 miles a day mixed between walking and jogging before I got the bike but was finding it hard on the knees (old rugby injury) bought the bike on adverts 5 weeks ago and have just got addicted to being on the bike
Sorry about the long winded reply but hard to put in a few words and thanks all for all the advice re bikes have to say that looking at a lot of those bike sites I feel as if I should be alone have the curtains closed and the door locked lol

Have you checked out the Canyon outlet section:

Or the United Healthcare CBoardman Team Bike SLR04 50 is a lot of bike for the money:

Just in case I trip over a rock some day with €2K under it ...

The black colour is "UD-Carbon". Isn't that unfinished carbon - i.e. impossible to keep clean and subject to fading if exposed to sunlight?

And the bars - what would you change with them - do I remember hearing somewhere that the standard ones increase in width as you move down to the drops?

There's just something about Rose bikes ...

my bike is the unfinished carbon, which i like, but if you change the colour of the bike above it shows a glossy black, which the unfinished carbon definitely is not, which makes me think that is a different finish, unless the is is wrong

as for the bars, the ones shown seem to have a strange angle, almost like a flat section beneath the hoods. that might help when in that position, but seems like it could limit available positions

the bars shown are a 3T set of bars, so can't comment on whether they get wider. the ones on my rose are the ritchey evo curve, which do get a bit wider on the drops, they are available on that bike for a small adder.

edit: actually, probably shouldn't call the bars strange, as I've seen it before, but just not sure it would work for me

Ok first thanks for all the info and the links now for my next question am I right in saying that component wise that the Scott has the best gear or am I wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

That Scott is fantastic value. Sram Rival is pretty much the equivalent of Shimano 105, so a bit below Ultegra, but with that frame and Wheels you won't go wrong for the money.

the ribble listed above probably has the best groupset, Di2, if you want electronic shifting, but the felt has sram red, probably better in mech versus mech

the scott has the best wheels, if you like deep rim, but after nearly getting blown off the road last week on a pair of kysriums during the stephen roche, i'm glad i didn't get the cosmics on mine, which i could have done, but i was looking at the carbones.

    all my opinions of course.

If there is one of these in your size, I'd say this is the best value for money you will get, to be honest.

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/outlet/list.html?type=race&serie=Ultimate+CF+SLX&size=&state=&sort=p-up#AS1004594

They seem to have it in every size, worth emailing and asking what size they'd recommend for your dimensions :)

Or here, they have the 2013 model with Campah Athena, which is fecking gorgeous!

the ones in the 2k mark, the 7.0's listed there are shimano 105 only though. be worth stretching the budget a bit to get ultegra or equivalent campg or sram if going that route
