Really not that big into them more into the specialist crisps like Doritos. Have they lost there edge? Any other product you can think of like so, Nokia spring to mind with phones.

Living abroad the last few years, and the thing I miss most is a decent bag of Tayto cheese and onion. (and proper guinness of course)

Dorito's, Pringles etc are a poor substitute

Are you mad? Tayto have really sharp edges

Also remember a time everyone had a Dell computer they have lost there edge on the market.

Dose Guinness really taste that different outside Ireland ?

Being a crisp hipster, I liked Tayto BEFORE Tayto Park

    Well aren't you Cliste! :pac:

Doritos wouldn't be specialist crisps OP, it's not until you get to thrice the price velvet crunch that you should have a reasonable expectation of an orgasm in a bag.

Nokia are still churning them out in India btw, there's no fear of them dying on their àrse yet!

You'd be surprised. I've had some absolutely rotten pints, even in Irish bars. It really does taste so much better in Ireland

    that's what king are for!

I never understood this tayto affection, they're better than walkers alright but they're well down the list of my preferred irish c+o crisps

I used to have a big dirty white (turning yellow) gateway 2000, remember seeing the dell dimension ad's with their pristine high tech looking black casings! I think the colour of them helped sales big time back in the day!

Any Irish person who eats Pringles should have their citizenship revoked.

The last few packets of Tayto Ive had have actually been very flavoursome,
so if anything, they are are going through a bit of a purple patch imo...
    Keep it up!

I buy King and Tayto now and again and the one thing I notice is..sometimes you'll get a really great batch of Tayto and other times they'll be meh; too oniony, not cheesy enough, not fresh enough etc.

I think with King they're always nice.
Dorito's are lovely but not on bread!

Regarding Snax, see my post under the Tayto Snax thread in
    Snacks&Sweets>Food.

I had a bag of skips for the first time in about 4 years. Not as nice as i remembered.

Doritos should be specialist crisps in any fúckers world. Far from Doritos most of us were reared least we forget it. (Though we are old and kantankerous and some of yee are young tiger like littleuns)

Packet o Tayto and can of Coke and ya were a God...

Now you need to have a tenner to get a jumped up little bollix of a kid anything in a shop.

    Humbug.

I agree king is superior in the cheese and onion department, but if its a pack of smokey bacon goin on the sambo it's tayto for me!

Unfortunately any of their corn based snacks have gone to the dogs in flavour and texture. Yeah Snax taste plasticy now. And the smokey bacon Wheelies are shít too.

They revived their Spring Onion flavour a few years back too and I don't know what happened but someone must have lost the original recipie as the remake was bland as fark.

Still Tayto have in no way lost their edge with their Jesus Onion Crisps, still top notch (not as many packets with the mad damp patch in the corner where the flavour machine went mad and gave you an extra extra dollop, gorgeous).

The Irish salted snack food market is the main reason why anybody who is considering emigration should abandon those plans.

Frankly, it's a disgrace that we are not dominating the world market. We have the finest crisps in the world.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,639 ✭✭✭Miss Lockhart

I think both Tayto and King are disgusting. They both taste cheap - all thin and flaky the with half of them in powdery crumbs in the bottom of the bag.

Dell are still churning them out too! Though their edge on the market was a very short lived long time ago too. Every company in the PC manufacturing industry is going through a slump, that's why they're redirecting their efforts on providing services rather than manufacturing anything.

Dose Guinness really taste that different outside Ireland ?

The pìsswater they're calling Guinness now varies from pub to pub in Ireland, let alone country to country! :pac:

Gateway 2000, remember the showroom and everything. Had a Packard Bell, worst computer I ever had.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on Tayto , was not really the point of the thread. More of a A use to be the best and B was the ****ty version, now B is the best and A the ****ty version.

Some many products are just not what they used to be, a lot of ice creams have changed big time in both price and size, gone from a small price and large ice cream to a small ice cream and a large price.

Do you remember the colored iMac computers? That's where Dell copied their idea from. There were meant to be five colors- black, yellow, red, blue and green, but the plastics for the other colors were proving WAY too expensive, so they scrapped the idea.

Dell were always about function over style, a concept that worked well for them in the States at the time, but HP were whipping their àrse on this side of the Atlantic with their superior style, because Europeans like their style.

Then the Asians came along in the last few years and cleaned up! :pac:

Hard to say, the new line of choclate bars should be interesting, I would imagine its more of a publicity thing than a viabiable product though.

Tayto (and their sister crisps King) are so hit and miss flavourwise I rarely buy them now.

As Homer says to the rice cake when on a "diet" - "hello taste, taste, hello" !!

Bring back King Luxury and Tayto PUB Crisps, nom nom

Haha I know very little about PC's of that era, my Gateway had been well used by the time I even got my mits on it. Ran windows 95 it did and I got Encarta 98' with it, I just remember that horrible white colour that all PC's used to be and being in awe of the sexy black dells!

Power went to his head, that little spud, the bastard! Indeed, bring back the little bags of A-team character crisps, 5p a bag. Probably charge nearly 50 cent for the now though! I like Pombear, gluten free. :)

pete's peanuts in the small red bag with the peanut with a cowboy hat and belt on. they were the tastiest nuts ever. That, and a bottle of cadet orange, cadet orange, cadet orange cadet orange,

    So many other brands out there now . . . . . . .

Walkers Cheese & Onion would be my No1 choice, with Tesco own brand a close 2nd, just love Golden Wonder too,
but they are very hard to get (in Ireland) nowadays! Marks & Sparks crisps are also yummy, as are . . . . . . .

I think Sam Spudz went the way of Perri crisps once Ireland was introduced to fancy àrse crisps like Hunky Dorys, Jesus I haven't had Hunky Dorys buffalo flavor crisps in years! :D
