Breakfast Diet

    Hello all,

I am in a process of losing some weight and I'm having difficulty about breakfast meals. I've two thought of but I'm not sure if they will help with the weight loss and yet provide me the energy needed for a school-day. Would Heinz Beans on Whole Wheat bread without nuts be healthy plus a poached/scrabbled eggs? The beans are low-fat but I'm a bit anxious about foods that say low-fat. Another would be porridge. I know this probably the healthiest meal to have but the taste is so vague. If you have any other breakfast meals, please do let me know :)

Normally, I would eat an apple and have a cup of orange juice (concentrated) and then a cup of tea with little milk in school. Are they okay to eat and drink after the main course of the breakfast?

    Cheers

Bacon & eggs, smoked salmon and eggs, or an omelette are my go to meals for breakfast.

Bacon and eggs? Eggs are full of protein, yes, but bacon? Do you fry it? I thought that anything fried won't help you at all?

You could grill it? Or fry it in coconut oil.

I actually don't need any oil on my fancy non stick pan.

Add some fruit/honey/seeds/cinnamon to porridge to make it more interesting.

Its likely they will have added sugar, if they are pointing out it's lo-fat = marketing and marketing= tell you something appealing about the front so you dont look at the back. Generally speaking fat is not bad. you need fat in your diet, fat is a source of energy and helps you feel full.

Nothing wrong with bacon, and nothing wrong with frying it. Use olive oil or some real irish butter if you like, both good fats and both good for you.

Eggs and bacon are a very good breakfast in more ways than one. If you're going to have beans then get the ones with no added sugar.

If you're losing weight then you need to worry about the calories you are eating.
If you're eating more calories than you use then you can't lose weight.

Orange juice, fruit, bread etc are all basically sugar. while not strictly bad for you they will add to your total, so if you're trying to get the total lo you need to limit them

Just be aware of the calorie total of them all when you eat them

Aldi - Unsmoked Thick Back Bacon Rasher
    Calories 78

Orange juice - Chilled, includes from concentrate
    Calories 110

A tiny glass of OJ, or 1.5 slices of bacon? I would prefer 3 slices of bacon and a glass of water.

Thanks thegreatiam, that has given me a better insight to it now. Never thought about adding cinnamon or fruit. I'll try that tomorrow. I thought anything fried wasn't healthy at all but thanks! What about bacon sandwich? I could use whole wheaten bread, toasted with bacon? I suppose I could a fruit before heading to school and have it for a snack.

Im not saying don't eat bread, but you get very little nutrition from it. Its basically only there to keep your fingers clean.

It's 180 calories or so of nothing. You can easily get rid of it.

I eat bread tho, purely for the luxury of it. If Im having soup then Ill get a nice artisan loaf to go with and really enjoy it.

I haven't had a sandwich at home for months. I got out of the habit of automatically making a sandwich, now I cook an omelet, or a quick soup. or even just a salad bowl of the ingredients I would normally use in a sandwich

You'll quickly realise that bread is taking up a large portion of your calorie total, so if you're minimizing your calories then eliminating bread can be a big step.

A bacon sandwich will be around 300 calories, more than half of that will be bread.

You would feel just as full if you had an omelet or fried eggs, and still have 200 calories to use for lunch or dinner.

You have a budget to meet each day, and cant go over. You will soon find ways to maximise what you spend your calories on. Nothing inherently wrong with bread, but its expensive calories and they can better be spent elsewhere.

(BTW wraps, bagels wholewheat, pitas and other 'breads' are the same as bread so having a wrap is the same as having a sandwich)

Of course a bacon sandwich is not a treat, its a god given right and it would be inhumane to deny anyone of it. However, once in a while, not once a day.
