im gonna try and tackle the rear axle bearing refurb on my 2003 berlingo
just the drivers side is worn and im thinking a secondhand one might suffer the same problem eventually .
    any tips or advice ?
or has any of you guys done this job yourselves ?

found this video from youtube covers some of the problems involved

Usually the axle itself wears as well in these when the bearings are gone. Getting a good s/h axle is the best way foward imo.

    Thanks
Mine isn't too bad very little play on it tbh
I'd be happy enough if I had to fill any scoring with the co2 and grind it back again .
My mate has a 2008 one and it is doing the same thing rhs as well .

If you got a good s/h axle with no wear, you could change the bearings on it if you wanted for piece of mind, this would be a better option than changing the bearings in a worn axle imo, that's if your axle has wear on it of course.

    That's a good idea
I could have it ready to bolt in fully reconditioned

I'm going to give it a good soaking in wd40 this weekend

And I've seen worn axles being filled with that chemical metal stuff when they where scored

    Update

    Done the bearings today
Had to use a set of bearing pullers and the gas torch on it to shift the torgen bar
The 2 bearings where just destroyed
The main shaft was very corroded
Cleaned it up as best I could and greased the hell out of it and re-fitted the new bearings
The inner bearing didn't fit as tight as I would have liked , a bit of chemical metal around it before I re-fitted it would have been a good idea and possibly a washer/ spacer between it and the butt of the axle .
But it's on now with a tiny bit of play in it
Hope it passes the doe now
