What do you do when your reference has moved on?

I have been job seeking for some time, and have always included the manager of a place I volunteered for in my references. I have since found out that this woman has moved on from the organisation I volunteered for. It began as a post-grad college placement but I ended up volunteering there for a year as I enjoyed it so much, and the service I provided was valuable to the service.

My only paid employer in my area of expertise since college (Social Care) is down as my other reference, and I worked in a few different roles there over the years.

I have loads of experience but don't have loads of references. I am wondering what I should do. Social Care is a relatively small community in Ireland, and I know with a bit of Googling and a quick search on LinkedIn, I could find this woman. If I find her, would it be out of order to ask could she still be my reference or what?

    Would love some guidance!

Absolutely you shoud find her and double-check that she's still happy to be a referee.

And take this as a lesson for the future - you need to be collecting referees wherever you go, so you always have alive pool of 'em. (Yes, I said "live" for a reason - as you get older, some of your older-still bosses will move-on more permanently than your current one has!)
