Selling up the Audi for something easier on tax. Looking at a Saab 9-3 as I've always had a soft spot for them, especially the estate version. Found this one with very low mileage

Thinking the timing belt is due to be changed at 50,000 km so could get it for cheaper than the asking. It's the only one I've seen with the touch screen Nav system, even in the uk there's some nice estates, but with vrt a 2009 works out being 13k or so.

Any opinions on the car itself and the general model etc would be appreciated.

Also any feedback on my ad I've just put up for my Audi would be great, first time selling a car privately

Personally I wouldnt do it if it is, as you say, to save on tax only. You're driving one of the very best cars available with serious luxury and you're moving down a few classes to a car with same asking price as you are asking yourself. Fuel consumption wont improve either, will prob be heavier than the Audi. If you're moving to go up in years, fair enough. Saab is a nice car though but its no A8, although nothing really is to be fair. I've actually decided just now I want an A8!

€500+ saving a year on tax though, I know nothing will compare to an A8, when I was shopping around even the 7 series or s320 didn't come close. It's a gorgeous car to drive and has power to spare for any situation. I see your point though, but I'm just worried that next year it'll only be worth 10 grand, then it's a slippery slope after that.

What would any one else do with 12k for a used car. Has to be automatic and no more than 2.0 for tax reasons, so 08 onwards. I do mainly motorway and country roads, usually sticking between 80-100 most of the time.

Btw bmwguy, of you really do want an A8 I know one going for a decent price! :D

Have you done the calculations on how much you stand to save over say 3 years if you change car?
At the end of the day it's up to you if it's worth it.

€12k for a 5 year old petrol 9-3 is just madness.

A similar manual here for €9k:

Personally I don't see any advantage coming from an A8 to a 9-3 even when you take the lower motor tax into account.

Time is not right for me, just bought a car, early days of a mortgage and setting up a part time business at the moment but I will have one. Not mad on the 7 series or s class
myself they just seem a bit ugly although obviously fantastic cars!

I agree with others. Lovely car, won't get another as nice. If you really must though, what about an 08 520d. Not had one myself but would love one. Cheap road tax and vg fuel economy. May be pushing the budget a bit but you might find one on donedeal.

I'm trying to steer clear of the BMW 520. There's just so many of them!!! Not keen on the interior either. Found them to have a stiff ride too.

How would ford or skoda stack up for 12k. Or have they fairly miserable automatic boxes?

Have a friend who is on his second superb and he thinks its great. Lots of room in back but middle seat not so much. Seems to be more focussed on seating 4 v comfortably. Haven't been in the new mondeo (I have the previous model and its great, reliable car), but it looks v spacious and good spec. Could maybe even get a 2010 model for your budget.
