Car Alarm with remote start

I have just got myself a new motor and now want to get an alarm installed to protect it.
I would also like the functionality of a remote start.
What sort of price should i expect to pay? I was hoping no more than €500..

My default assumption is that Clifford alarms are the best. Is this still a valid assumption? If so, are there any installers in Ireland that are authorised by Clifford?

    Thanks

    What car model/year?

08 Accord, diesel. Would this make much of a difference?

Only in that not all alarm/remote starts will fit all cars.
I've actually been considering this myself in an automatic Subaru.

Have you asked a Honda dealer about this? It might not be much more than having some auto electrician do it, and you'd know that it was done by Honda.
    Viper is an alternative.

Yes it would, the car will need its immobilisor bypassed via your key transponder hidden somewhere in the car, this would apply to any make of alarm with remote start. If your specifically looking for a Clifford then your going to be easily looking at 800+ for an alarm + remote start installed unless you went with a basic model eg arrow 5.1 with remote start but I still cant see that being under 500.

If you could stretch your budget slightly you could go for a concept 650mk2, no remote start but has blakjax and a great all around alarm, personally having had remote start myself I just wouldn't bother with it again, the gimickness soon wears off and I dont think I even ever used it once on a cold morning to warm the car up :)

Food for thought indeed, although I am already pretty religious about running the car for 5-10 mins before driving... kinda concerned that the car is sitting in drive ripe for the robbin'!!

The car is still alarmed when remote started, if its set off the car cuts out, my main concern is that if for whatever reason the alarm was never set it can be easily HotWired without the keys, there's ways of adding additional kills but just be aware that the transponder from your spare key is going to be hid in the car.

You may find a cheaper solution with one of the DEI spinoffs, hornet, python, viper, avital ect as well as Clifford's are all made by the same company just aimed at different markets so some have different features and cheaper pricing, avoid the cheap Chinese alarms on eBay, and also falcon alarms, they caused nothing but trouble when I used to fit them.

I don't understand why people still do this. The bestbwaynto warm up your car is simply by driving it. Provided you don't turn the key and immediately rev the car to the red line, you won't do any more damage by driving normally over letting itbsitnthere idling.

If the Accord is not auto then you will need something to sense if it is in neutral, otherwise it'll head off on its own............

    +1
The best way to warm up a car is to drive easy for the first couple of minutes, taking more time the colder the ambient temperature. Leaving it sitting in the driveway to warm up is bad for cars as they aren't designed to do this anymore.

I had a car with a Clifford G5 remote start already installed. I had a receipt of the install and it was crazy money (cant remember now how much). I had that car about 1.5 years and I NEVER used the remote start, other than the past owner showing it to me when I bought it.
It was a pretty stupid feature. You cant just press a button and it starts. You have to press a sequence of buttons before you get out of the car, to allow it to remote start the next time. So if you wanted to start it in the morning, you have to remember to do it the previous night.

I'd recommend giving MDS a call; Brendan installed alarms in my car and for a few other people I know and he was great to deal with. He should be able to point you in the right direction.

If you are looking at Clifford however you are not going to get something with remote start in your price range. I have the G5 with blackjax in my car and it cost me I think 750.

To be honest, if you want the alarm primarily for security then I'd forget about the remote start and spend as much as your budget will allow on an alarm that offers the most protection. Personally I wouldn't want an inferior alarm just so it can have a feature that will probably not get used much after the novelty factor wears off.

I've have had remote start/alarm installed on my last three cars and after the last one I said never again, never really used it, as said more of a gimic really. Leaving a car to idle to warm up causes more wear and tear on an engine, they should be driven gently from cold to warm up.

GW Autos did all of my installs, he fits K9 alarm systems with plenty of options. Last one I had fitted with pager and remote start was €600 fitted but that was a few years ago. He is a mechanic and auto electrician, can do installs at work places too.
