    Hi lads,

Failed the NCT because of advanced corrosion on the offside rear brake line. It's a 00 Fiesta with 75,000 miles for what it's worth.

Is this a big and/or expensive job? Can anyone tell me what's involved and what ballpark I might expect to pay?

    Ta!

You should have a look over it yourself first, if there's any encrusted dirt or mud on the lines, clean that off first - be gentle and careful though you do not want a leak in any of these lines. But pop off the wheels clean the lines and see how they look after that they might not need to be replaced - and will be failed if they're too dirty to see properly.

If it needs to be done replace all your brake lines in the one go, not worth just doing one and some good new brake fliud, I have no idea how much it'd cost but maybe around 200 with labor and parts (feel free to correct me on this).

My mechanic did this on my van after she failed the DOE on corroded lines among other things. He reckoned they didn't need to be changed so he cleaned them up, I think he treated them with something and she passed no bother after that. They were caked in s**te to be honest.

From what he said, I'm pretty sure it's actually corroded. He was able to describe it as only bad in one place, but deep at that point.

id definitely change them on that type fiesta, its happened a few times that i've been cleaning them off with a wire brush and the brake line has ruptured, those fiesta brake lines seem to be especially thin.

€200 on a 2001 Hyundai coupe last week, both sides from about halfway back.

It is usually a pretty quick job on those Fiestas as the lines are easily accessible. Obviously without seeing the car it is impossible to give an exact price but I would say somewhere between €70 and €100.
