Just looking from some advice on the best way to start out in sheep farming.

I was thinking of getting about half a dozen ewes with lambs. Maybe PB, 2 or 3 years old? Am getting a lot of conflicting advice.

Any of the neighbors would surely supply me but I am convinced that I would get the worst of their stock!

Was looking at buying at the Mart but the Vet tells me that I would be bringing disease onto my land? Just need to quarantine I suppose.

I have been keeping an eye on DoneDeal but not much seems to come up in my area (Wicklow). Any advice appreciated!

If you're looking for purebreds maybe Google the societies of the breeds you're interested and ask about reputable breeders.

Dont buy of a neighbour !!!!!!!!!

Go to Blessington on Tuesdays or Baltinglass on Saturday and see whats on offer .
Ashford is back open too on Mondays .
Just to get an idea of prices for different quality etc ....
Thats if your going for commercial ewes .

pb stock are expensive to start learning with imo.if i was going to do what you are talking about i would run some commercial ewes for a few years to learn. often heard the quote that running 10 pb ewes is as much work as running 100 commercial especially if you are going to show them
