Sick in the week before a race?

    Hi - some advice needed.

I have an 18km run on Sunday as part of a team event (target time is 75mins). I really have to take part as there will be no one else to take my place and there are 3 other team members relying on me.

However, I am sick at the moment and have not ran since Friday morning. I would like to do some small runs before then if I feel well enough, but does anyone know if it will be ok if I have not run for 9 days before the event. Am I more likely to get injured and will I have lost a lot of fitness in these 9 days?

    Thanks

No - you wont lose all your fitness in 9 days, I know that from experience. Dont try to go running before you are fully fit or you risk prolonging the illness. YOu will be surprised how quick fitness comes back to you after a week or two away from training so dont panic too much...

Your fitness will be grand but your body could still be only recovery so you might not be at a 100% even though u feel ok

    Thanks for the advice.

I think I will take it very easy just do a couple of very short runs (4-5km) and stretch a good bit. And hopefully will still feel decent and energetic by race day.

Nothing can keep down race day adrenalin anyway!
