    Hi Folks,

on the back of my recent thread about a cheap tablet, we bought a prestigio brand and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price we paid.

This now has me thinking about the other products. Both myself and the OH could do with changing our phones. Him because the mic in his handset is banjo'd and he ends up looking like Dom Jolly everytime he answers the phone! For me, well I don't need a new phone but if he's getting one ;)

Well anyway, again, not being a brand snob and not being overly techie we are not really the sort to pay €300+ on a phone and neither of us are interested in signing up to a contract.

With this in mind, what do folks think of any of these phones? the particular feature which is attracting me is the dual sim option which would be really useful for us as I have a work number and a personal number and himself has a lyca mobile sim for making international calls. I assume that the facility allows you to have two sims on different networks (I assume because otherwise what would be the point). Not having to have 2 phones each would be so handy. I also like the look and size of these compared to the similar priced ones with my network (meteor). I don't mind unlocking a phone from another network, but an unlocked phone with dual sim would be soooooo much more convenient.

So can you kind folks advise what these are like?

I'm thinking that the €89 would probably be grand for OH as he only occasionally uses the internet on his phone, one of the higher memory ones for myself as I use mine a lot when travelling.

Are they rubbish and a waste of money or worth a punt?

Avoid them, they'll not get the support you need, Android is constantly evolving. The €89 one has Android 2.3 which is too old (released 2011). Even the ones with Android 4.0 will not get updates to newer versions of Android. FWIW, my own phone which is 9 months old runs 4.2. You will find with older versions of Android apps stop working and loose support as the developers concentrate on support for the newer versions.

A Huawei Ascend G300 would be a better choice, as there is a community of people contributing to the development of custom software for it.

Pardon my ignorance, but the Huawei Ascend is Android 2.3 also is it not? and it is only single sim
    Huawei Ascend G300 Black
    •Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread)
    •WiFi & 3G
    •GPS

and only available on Vodafone so would have to faff with unlocking it.

Any others out there with dual sim - from china even, don't mind. Not in a rush for it.
    thanks!

Yes, but there is a community of people creating newer custom software to run on it bringing it up to date. Check out the thread. This is something you don't get with the Prestigio

The Jiayu JY-G2 would suit the both of ye. Android 4.0, Dual Sim, 4" IPS screen and expandable storage.

I also think there is a thread on them here someplace.
