    Hi all,

I am looking to buy a good entry level mountain bike which would stand up well on the moutains and would also work for commuting. I have been looking around and I have my sights set on a 29er mountain bike.

So far I have my options narrowed down to 3 bikes - the GT Karakoram 29er 2013, the Giant Revel 29 1 2013 or the Specialised Hard Rock Sport Disc 29er.

I am pretty keen on the Giant option as it seems like a good bike and Im getting a good deal on it. I don't know a huge amount about the GT bike however and I have heard that the fork in the Specialised bike isn't great so I am not as keen on that one.

I really would appreciate any advice as I am only new to this. Any pointers?

    Cheers,

    DB

Between €650 - €800 are the prices I have at the moment. Each of the guys I was talking about said a 29er would suit me better as I'm quite tall and would be a bit quicker for a commute if needed. Plus they're pretty cool looking! I'm edging towards the Giant model.

Check out rose and canyon online.
There entry bikes seem very well priced for spec

Have you been to Giant's Dublin showroom? giant-dublin.ie

You can try one for size and take the bike for a spin to see if it suits you...

try doing that with an online retailer!

how tall are you? id prefer a 26er myself tbh, more fun on irish trails in my opinion, and a 29er will still have similar geometry/frames to a 26er just with bigger wheels

I'm getting it on the Cycle To Work so it'll be half the price anyway. Pretty sure I'll go with one of the three I mentioned but just finding it hard to decide which one.

    Any suggestions?

i've a spec rockhopper myself and love it, but the hard rock is the model below it, which I'm not sure I'd consider if you want to do proper off road stuff.
