Isn't it lucky that we're entering Spring, oh wait...

With all the beer and curry I've had over the bank holiday weekend I've enough gas to last them a few decades.

We've just had the coldest March for 50 years and the coldest Easter Sunday since records began. Global Warming me hoop. Carbon tax scam, we should be lashing more carbon into the air and heat us the f up.

A few businesses that have an interruptible supply tariff will be expected to shut down soon, if that isn't enough then some people may get cold!

Not from the national grid, it's alarm bells they're hearing.

    April 1st ringin' a bell?

its actually genuine, the cold weather has wiped out their supplies

    April 1st ringin' a bell?

Sure Dublin is almost out of water, it's reasonable to assume the UK is running low on it's gas reserve for this time of year compared to normal years.

It was a joke about the current cold weather. Obviously that isn't good news. How did they manage to let the reserves run so low?

I know ;) The problem is simply the fact that with North sea gas production rates going through the floor (it's running out) & supply lines from Russia & Norway being insufficient to maintain the demand during this exceptionally long period of cold weather, the stores have simply run out!

By now in a normal year, they'd have started the process of charging up the stores for next winter.

    Long term storage hits empty!

What about all the disused coal mines and gas reserves under the ground in Britain?

    Time to reopen the mines?

More like a "Little Ice Age" as predicted by the weakening solar cycle (possibly)

Thought that was two years ago when the sun went months without any sun spots or flares, is it not on the way back up after it's minimum.

Besides, 13 years ago at the last minimum it was not as cold as it is now and we actually got summers then, we haven't had one in about 4 years now.

Sorted, well sort of, in the sense of getting in supplies at the last minute.
A bit like sending the missus out to the off license at 9:55 to get a few cans in after you've opened the last one.

Solar sctivity is supposed to be at its maximum now but it's the weakest for 100 years, 100 years ago the weather was crap as well!

But the offy only had 3 cans left so you have to make them last

And we are giving away our gas supplies for free. I swear, we would be out of recession in minutes if we sold it to the féckers!!!

I foresee the very near re-siege of Ireland, or at least Dalkey/Dun Laoighaire in the near future!

On a serious note though, this is the 1st of April, where the fúck is the 10-15 degrees weather we have by now. I am wearing sky gloves and 2 hoodies and a warm jacket these days to go to the shop! My MIL has ran out of oil for the 4th time this "winter" it is actually insane. The three major gas suppliers are thrilled though, I could well imagine!

Forget about that, I'm wearing a long sleeve T shirt, a jumper, a jacket and a wooly hoody with a scarf indoors cause the bloody fuel has run out again in this bloody house I'm sharing.

I can see my breath every time the light is on (and yes, I mean due to the cold and not my halitosis)

Did you not watch The Day After Tomorrow? We're doomed, doomed I tells ya!

Besides, they renamed it Climate Change as Global Warming, while an accurate description of the process, wasn't really a good indicator of the end results.

Could be interesting next year if we get this again since they're meant to be stockpiling at this stage.

I am wearing two pairs of socks, one over the knee. thick pants, two t-shirts and a hoodie while under a duvet on the couch. My heating is not gone, but after having it one for near 7 hours over today and having it timed to come on a few times tonight, I cannot afford to keep it on continuously.

I live with my partner and son, both men are like polar bears, normally my partner goes around in a tshirt in winter, HE is complaining of the cold. He is wearing a wooly hat studying.

I genuinely am worried for the elderly and for farmers whose animals are not doing too well. Livelihoods and lives are at risk. My elderly MIL ran out of oil and won't be able to get any until tomorrow.

Remember in March last year there was a mini heatwave? I remember going to the beach one day with friends and our kids and the weather was glorious! Not a long sleeve in sight!

Poured here yesterday - and was really cold, no mildness like there usually is with rain.

Seems like up here in the NW, we have had the best of the weather.

I am sure I had the bbq going a good few times last April.

No seriously this is mad. It is the 1st of FúCKING April. People didn't refill their oil tanks because not one of us thought it would be this cold now. My heating bills are going to be through the roof. Airtricity are probably going to get a 6 month boner when I submit my next meter reading!

I'd say there won't be much of a baby boom in 9 month's time. Trying to coax anything out in this climate, even if you do have a special jumper for it, is difficult.:pac:

Of course it's cold compared to what we're used to. And particularly for the time of year.

I'd agree with that if it's just a bit cool out there, but it is wintry cold at the moment - a jumper isn't enough.

If you are cold you need a better house or improve the one you have

If you have not the funds for such an expedition I suggest you stop wasting them on fossil fuels.

The average for this time of year is 4 to 6 deg.
In the morning it is 1 deg, at midday it is 6 deg.
    Nothing amazing.

It is cold - but nothing outside of norm. It is not even below zero. It is -12 in UK.

Meh, it is of course cold and even though I'm wearing a very warm jumper, I need to put on the heating also - 'tis no biggie, that's what most people are doing; nothing unusual or irrational there. And I'm not a person who whinges about the cold when it's dull and a bit breezy. My fellow Irish women who go on about the cold all the time no matter what time of year wreck my head too. But at the moment, no need to pretend it isn't cold, just for the sake of it. Was watching the forecast just there - Evelyn described it as extremely cold, particularly for the time of year. And it's gonna stay that way until the weekend... :(

I know not of this Evelyn you speak of but did she say that the farming parts of Ireland are colder than those of us legends within Dublinia?

If not you need more insulation and higher glaze windows

Nothing outside of the norm? Meteorologists would disagree with you. I know there are occasional days in March/early April that are as cold as this, but a stretch as prolonged is unusual. And snow? Hard frost? Pretty disingenuous to say that's the norm for late March/early April.
