We have a small area of hazel on a bit of very steep ground and all it does is fall over periodically:rolleyes: We could do with a bit of fencing done and I wondered would they be any good as strainers of stakes?

I've used a few of the light ones before for temporary electric but found that they went very brittle after a few years. I'd say get something treated for strainers, ideally ESB or telegraph poles - you dont want to end up changing them in a few years. If cash is tight, I suppose you could take your chances with the hazels as posts but I reckon you'ld be changing them much earlier than treated posts

Of course you could go down this route...:)

Last year we had a few good strong hazel cuttings as corner stakes for stripping land to close meadows. Point the ends and drive an insulated nail into it, you're good to go.

Might not be durable enough to have as a replacement, but grand for strip grazing or that craic.
