What connection times out.... Wifi or Mobile Data?

Can you explain pre loved.... I never heard it.... is it pre owned??

    Kies is a dog.....

most Samsung ppl use ODIN to flash firmware updates

What update did you apply via Kies, and can Kies still see your phone....

Honestly Kies is only useful for installing drivers with the Kies install package.

You may need to do a factory reset initially.

Have you a custom recovery or rom on the device?

    Sorry, 4s = iPhone?

What you posted is your stock Kernel version..

    it's not your firmware..

I have attached a pic of my Settings/about device..

    Bottom of Settings menu....

Can you see the one there re version, baseband and build..... That's what is relevent

What sim do you have, is the phone locked to another network or have you checked the APN settings.

Also, as you seem to be able to connect to Kies OK, it must still be stock, as usually customising with new rom or recovery will mean Kies won't play ball, but it's so long since I used Kies that may not be fully correct.

Are you willing to try a factory reset, which would revert your phone to an out of the box state, you would lose any apps installed and settings such as wifi, game scores...

You can access from Settings/backup and reset.

So, if you can post info or pics showing version, baseband and build, a day then perhaps consider factory reset, but after we look at what we got first. OK?

I gotta ask you another question, which you can do from the dialler key-pad:

    dial

    *#1234#...

it should bring up a screen with extra information about baseband, csc, etc....

you will see a screen like this, from my S3....

    ap-cp-csc.jpg

It will help identify which country your phone's firmware is for, and if the modem is suitable, it also will via the CSC if ther is any carrier or country customisation....

I think you may have to flash via ODIN, depending on what you find, but it is easy, I will show you...

Just post the results of what you get, or better still, a screen-capture....

AP is your apps, s/w, etc version

CP is the Modem/Baseband...which determines the freq bands used

CSC is Customer Customisation [Customer means the providers, like 3 or Voda]

You can do a screen capture this way:
Pressing the power and home buttons at the same time will also grab an image of the screen. This can be awkward to get right, so it’s important to remember to press both buttons at the same time, and hold them until the shutter sound is heard.

The pic will end up in Gallery, and you can share from there....if you have dropbox or google drive it's easy, but don't worry if you can't get it...

    another way to capture is:
    http://droidlessons.com/how-to-take-a-screenshot-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s3-free-no-app-required/

    1. Click the MENU button and select SETTINGS.
    2. Select MOTION.
    3. Under “Hand Motion” settings, check “Palm swipe to Capture” checkbox.
    4. That’s it! Now you can capture screens by moving your palm on the screen from left to right or right to left. This will take screenshot of whatever screen you are currently on. You can go to your Gallery app to see the screenshots that you have captured.

it's important that you copy the values correctly, as 1 is not I in your baseband as above

    baseband:19300buema1....is it bu or ub??

If you just post your reslts here, we will have a better idea....

    cheers, IP

You could do that, if you don't mind losing recently installed user apps, or game scores, etc, etc.

Apps should reinstall from Google Play, if this is selected, otherwise you may need to download them again, and set up wifi, etc.....

It's a pity we cannot get the info regarding what ROM is installed.

It looks like it could be a German Vodafone, going by the info you provided, and it has not been rooted, etc, as it is the latest update for that market.

    baseband:I9300buema1

see pic, from Italian site[Google Translated], which I believe is the f/w you have.

    german_firmware.jpg

Are you able to connect to the phone and transfer files to your SD card, if so, and if you cannot download, there is an app I could give you which will find your CSC, and other info??

It is called Check Fus...[fus is f/w updates], but cannot any longer download updates, it can check your phone for firmware you have.

If you do a factory reset, you will still be on that Firmware, and I don'k know if German f/w is compatible here, i think it should be, but i'm not sure.

You might be better flashing a rom which is uk/ireland, this can be done using ODIN....

or maybe go the custom rom route, which will mean rooting, custom recovery, loads of techy stuff.

Flashing with ODIN is now also easier, as there is Mobile ODIN, which can flash directly from the phone!!

    So let me know!!

BTW, try the dial code again, as shown before, without SIM card in phone, just to check if you can get it.

    Cheers.
