Yellow Box Question - Terenure at Rathdown junction

    Hi All,

Just a question on this yellow box. The view of the pic attached is coming down Templeogue road heading to Terenure cross at Rathdown junction lights. Should the traffic be allowed sit in the yellow until the traffic moves on or is it to be left vacant?? The reason I ask is because coming from Templeogue road most traffic will not enter the box unless they can clear it. This is adding significantly to the build up of traffic at these lights.

    Thanks.

You are not allowed to "sit" in a yellow box full stop.

I know this junction well as I live fairly close and it sickens my shíte the amount of people who just park in it like it doesn't exist.

The sooner we get yellow box cameras the better.

I've been at that junction a few times and have had people beep me to progress when there was traffic built up like in your picture and I was sat at the lights, really irritating.

+1 to mfceiling. If you can't clear it don't enter the yellow box. I don't know the junction but if your still on the yellow box when the lights change, your probably going to hold up traffic coming from other directions.

Regardless of how it affects traffic flow, if you stop in a yellow box then you are the one who could get done for it. Let the people around you beep all they want.

Typically at least two cars do progress across to the far side unless there's a Garda watching. Two cars doesn't make any difference the traffic flow coming from Templeogue road, but it can block the traffic turning onto Terenure Rd West. There's not really any good reason for cars to enter the yellow box.

Though it's usually done out of frustration when the sequence goes like this:

    1. Lights go green for Templeogue rd but no-one can move.
    2. Lights go green for Terenure Rd W and the main crossroads, traffic moves through.
    3. Lights go red for the main crossroads, stay green for Terenure Rd W and the queue is filled up to the yellow box.
    4. Lights go green for Templeogue rd, but no-one can move

And it continues like that for about ten minutes. So people start pulling into the yellow box in frustration. The lights just need to be sequenced better to allow more throughput from Templogue rd.

If cars do drive into the box they are not blocking any traffic. So in this case the rule of the road doesn't make a lot sense. All that's happening here is that traffic is building up and having to wait for two changes of lights before it can move on.

The main issue is the sequence of lights at the Terenure crossroads just a few yards down. That plays havoc with traffic at the Terenure/Templeogue junction

There were plans to change the village to a one-way system, I'm not sure what's happened to those plans.
So inbound traffic would need to come down Terenure Rd W, outbound traffic would be routed down Templeogue rd - no right turn onto Terenure rd w. Only busses would be allow drive eastbound on Templeogue rd.

This sounds a bit crazy as the traffic on Terenure Rd W would be mental, but without the conflicting traffic at the Y junction it means that the traffic would actually flow much better.

This particular junction must be left clear to allow Lassie to cross over to Eddie Rockets to sniff the bins.
