o yes the old pubs+restaurants are moaning cos they lost 15 million due to the 'good froday' drinks ban--does this mean that every day in ireland we as a nation spend 15 million eating out and drinking
jesus there was me thinking we were in some kind of a recession. they want it all but no give back from them --down our way they don't even give a christmas drink anymore cos one of them decided that they would give the money to charity but we never seen any reciepts or thank you letters from these charities. you's have had it good for long enough no sympathy here for them.:P

No. The 15 million is the amount of off licence bought for and drank on Good Friday converted into pints and spirits that would have been sold if the pubs were open X value of said pints and spirits.

Was the recession better, worse or the same as now in 2010? In Limerick city alone the publicans calculated they would lose €10 million by not being able to open on Good Friday when there was a big rugby game on. Anyway they got to open for a few hours.

    http://townfulloflosers.com/2010/03/26/publicans-raise-spirits-after-nailing-good-friday-opening-hours/

The publicans and other Limerick business people did their sums and reckoned that they would lose around €10 million if the pubs remained shut. I don’t know exactly where they got this figure from, but it would mean that every adult in Limerick would have to drink ten pints on the day, admittedly not an impossible task.

Ahh they do! Sure going ta dah pub is better than drinking at home according to Reilly himself. And for that reason they'll up the price of alcohol to save us from ourselves. Aren't they great and thoughtful!

Good Friday must be in the top 5 or 6 drinking days of the year.

never to worry, with the 2 pints extra people will drink on Easter Saturday, it will make up the deficient that businesses will require to dump into the black-hole of negative equity.

€15m is just over €3 for every person, not that much tbh.

€50 would be an average Friday night out for me, I'd imagine 300,000 other people would be the same

Fukc the publicans. I lost a days pay because everywhere was closed but its not a bank holiday so no pay!

    Shafted by religion again!

    €15 Million.

About 4 million people living in the country.

Works out at an average of €3.75 per person.

    We're a nation of wusses.

if they dropped their prices (especially bottled beers & soft drinks) to more reasonable levels they'd more than compensate for the €15m with the extra business they'd get.
