Daytime do not matter it is ground temperature that matter to the biggest extent. At ground temperatures above 6C grass begins to grow ssssllloowly. When above 12c air temperature do not matter. When you hit 9-10c grass will be growing well.

Magic day is 3-4 weeks away.

Wind chill is -2c here now.
Was -3.1c earlier, grass growth is a fair bit off yet.

Auld fella used to say that you need 3 nights above 3 degrees for grass to start slowly.

+1, we are under serious pressure here at the moment, need to get fert out to try and spur on growth but it's way too cold at the moment. First year in a long time we havent been able to let cows off to grass as they calve. It's going to be hard to get cows back in heat early this year I'm afraid :(

Give them some meal Redzer. To hell with the cost. You'll spend the next few years trying to pull back calving dates.

They are all getting it pak and allwhich are calved are on silage now aswell, it's keeping them going but no substitute for the grass we would normally have at the same time. I think I'm going to let the calving slip back to march next year anyway, the feburary calves are knocking too much out of the cows outside on the winterage and out of my pocket trying to feed them. I hope to jaysus we don't get a summer like last year.
