tv with saorview freesat reciever that does not require source switch

I was looking at a samsung smart tv with freesat andsaorview reciever built in. To switch from watching rte 2 to bbc one requires changing the source. This is impractical.
What tvs out there dont have this limitation?

    Thanks

None that I'm aware of. You could buy a separate combined terrestrial / satellite reciever and set it up that way. You would have to keep it up to date with any channel changes (new channels, frequency moves etc.) so may not be an option if you want something ultra simple.

Other option is a pay TV service.

For some reason it seems to be a restriction imposed by FreeSat. Likewise you can not change / re-order channel numbers on FreeSat equipment.

Doesn't really make sense. I have built a htpc with windows media center on windows seven with a blackgold receiver. That does not have any restriction. I.e I can go from saorview to BBC without switching source

You are getting Free To Air, not Freesat. Freesat is a branded product, a joint venture between ITV and BBC. Their business is selling Freesat branded boxes and TV's

Free to air in Ireland is saorview. Then freesat gets me the satellite channels. Anyway I just want to know if a tv exists that does not require source switching between the two.

You are never going to have an official Freesat / Saorview combined EPG. Two totally different platforms.

Some Humax boxes can be tweaked to add the Saorsat (satellite) channels to the Freesat EPG, but it's a bit of a hack.

And our market in Ireland is too small for manufacturers to want to make a TV with both combined. The potential market here is even smaller again when you consider how many people have a pay TV service.

I think you are missing the question. I am not concerned about epg. Samsung tvs have a saorview , free view built in . Works perfect BUT to go from rte one to BBC for example you have to press a few buttons and switch to satellite source.

Do you need an aerial to view these channels on your Samsung TV?

You are not understanding, Freesat is a brand. You receive Free to Air channels on your PC, but you do not have Freesat on Windows as Freesat is a branded product. Your TV is a Freesat branded Samsung, it has it's limitations, as you've discovered.

Let me clarify based on my new knowledge. I want a tv with saorview and free to air that just by going up through the channels it goes from saorview to free to air. No source switching required

What you are looking for does not exist.

Btw, Saorview is also a branded product.

There is unlikely ever to be a Saorview and Freeview branded product. There may be a future TV that does terrestrial and satellite, but there are none at present. The main manufacturers of TV's have no interest in non branded though so don't hold your breath. FTA has many disadvantages, it needs constant retuning as channels move around all the time

I understand what you looking for but is impossibile, the two channels are using different tuners: rte using terrestrial tuner, bbc using satellite tuner,so you will have to switch between tuners

There are combo boxes that allow swapping between tuners, check out the Amiko Alien 2. You make bouquets with your channels and swap between tuners. It's not an of the shelf product though, needs some work to make it decent.

You can mix DVB-S and DVB-T in certain D/E Samsung models through hotel mode.

In general with Freesat Branded/Approved Logo TV's what you want to do will not work. This is because DVB-S is working within the Freesat proprietary software. Freesat Software only includes station broadcasting on DVB-S and who are added to the Freesat line up. A proprietary 7 day epg is built into this service. Whilst DVB-T tuners are shipped with Freesat TV's it can not run from within the Freesat environment as it has nothing to do with the Freesat satellite platform. The Freesat software also has built in service IDs that tie to the software gui that when moved are readily redirected to the new broadcasting stream. This saves rescanning and deleting old channels that have moved.

    Hence the source switch.
A combo box such as the Ferguson Ariva 150/250 does allow mixing of both seamlessly in fully customisable channel lists

I have a Samsung Smart TV (ES7000) and it works OK but it is a pain to switch. Whith Country=UK, there are three modes - Aerial, Satellite, Freesat. You switch between them by pressing [CHList][RED][^][OK][OK][OK] which moves from one to another. Freesat is only available for Country=UK. If you have Country=Ireland, then you only get Satellite and Saorview. With UK settings, all the Saorview channels are dumped in the 800s randomly, mixed radio and TV.

Beacause Freesat is proprietry, it is not allowed (by Freesat) to permit channel number changes or any mixture with terrestial channels.

It would be great if they allowed terrestial to have a different country setting, but they do not. It would be great if they reduced the clunkiness of going from one to another. It would be great if 1 or 2 digit stations were terrestial and three digit were Freesat with four digit FTA satellite. It would be great if ........ but they don't.

It is a good telly though.

Satellite dish & UHF aerial of the appropriate type for reception conditions at your location. "Rabbit ears" won't work for everyone.

Some of the Walker's in Power City have both tuners. I haven't tried them myself, maybe they have one channel list?

Having two tuners does not solve the problem if you want Freesat. It appears a condition that Freesat impose that they restrict the use of their service such that channels cannot be reassigned nor can Terrestial be mixed with Freesat.

FTA satellite can be mixed with Saorview OK but then there is no EPG for satellite, only now and next.

The OP asked specifically about FTA.
