    Hi guys had 4s but fancied a change so got s3 preloved :(anyhow its so slow its just not funny and when i try to update i get message saying ur device has been modified software updates not available .Does this mean that this phone is useless :oand will never be updated?thanks in advance

    Im guessing someone put on a crappy custom rom, A rom with a Kernel that doesn't suit.

    You can put back on a stock rom and then I think you can update it through Kies.

    No you will need to install a custom stock rom first.

    Go to your settings and then down the very end click "about phone".
    Then go down see what your rom is and post it up to see if it is a custom rom.

    Thats your Kernel, and that is a stock one as far as I know.

    So not sure now, probably better off waiting for a second opinion.

    Done a quick google for you. Seems something to do with your Sd card :confused:
    People said they got it working by power the phone off, remove the SD card, power back up and then insert your Sd card.

    You can check if it worked by going to your settings, about device and status, should change from modified.

    This method didnt work for another user, he performed a factory reset and it was fine after that.

    thanks for all your help and time on this dont have sd card in place yet, but will do reset and see wat happens cant get any slower lol thanks again .

    You need to download the latest stock Rom and kernel from xda and flash it with a program called Odin from your pc. If you need more help you can ask here.
