Noisy PC fan - Arctic Cooling F12

I bought an Arctic Cooling F12 as an extra fan to provide air coming into the case, with the bog standard case fan (the one that came with it) as an exhaust fan.

Problem is, I find it quite loud. I have both fans connected to the motherboard rather than the PSU for power so I can access them via BIOS. Does anyone have an expert opinion on BIOS control of fans (i.e. what speed the Arctic Cooling fan should be at)?

Literally just fitted a pair yesterday, I dont find them too bad.

Somewhere between 40 & 60% would be my starting point.

Do you have those two fans at 100%, ED E?

No, never run any fan at 100% :P

I have my back exhaust 120mm Bitfenix case fan at 100% (I presume; I have never altered the fan speed in the BIOS), hardly makes a din.

Oh, what case? I've an outlaw.

My rear is on the PWR header IIRC and its quite enough(but set to slow I think). The only betfenix fan in the thing. I doubt yours is running full tilt though, connect it to a molex and see what happens.

Bitfenix spectre 120mm fans are pretty quiet at full speed.

You maybe right about the Bitfenix fan. My case is the Merc Alpha.

Your case is mine except the normal way around with a different face plate.

I've got two Xigmateks 120s in the front, 1 Bitfenix rear(same as you) and 2xF12's in the roof slowly exhausting. I wouldnt call it loud and I wouldnt call it quiet either, its a happy medium. Freezer 13 is more than capable of cooling the OC'd Q6600 at 30 or 40% so thats deadly silent. Makes a nice little flow straight out the back of the case.

Positive pressure, what positive pressure :pac:

EDIT: If you're interested this little puppy looks like chinese cr@p but is actually a fine little unit and works perfectly. I have mine hidden internally so all you see is a blue glow on the CPU fan.
