Suggestions for sun holiday for person travelling alone

I'm looking into booking a week away somewhere sunny, probably the end of June or else sometime in July.

I've never been on a 'sun holiday' before. I've been looking at deals, and a lot of them seem to be all about the nightlife. That's not what I'm looking for at all. I basically want a nice quiet place where I can lie on the beach and read for the week. :o Nowhere with lots of partying at night. And preferably somewhere without many kids.

Also, although I'm planning on going alone, I'm not single. So I'm not looking for one of those 'single holiday' group things.

Somewhere with nice places to eat would obviously be a big plus.

And I'm hoping to get it as cheap as possible. Ideally I'd prefer to stay in a hotel, but would go for self-catering if there's a big difference in price.

Would appreciate any suggestions for destinations, or for booking websites etc, or even any general advice - as I mentioned, I've never been on a sun holiday before, so I'm not really sure what to look for or avoid!

Oh and I'm 27, female. (But, reading back on the above, maybe a holiday destination aimed at ould wans might suit my needs perfectly?!)

    Hi Chatterpillar,

I don't holiday on my own but I do travel with a friend who departs from a different country so the logistics would be similar. There is also a chance that one of us may not be able to make it last minute so there would be a slight chance we would end up alone. I am currently in the process of booking a week away with her so in the same boat as you so to speak, looking at the best deals.

Ryanair have some good flight offers at the moment and the best accommodation web site I have found so far is Travel Republic, booked twice with them last year. Puerto Rico in the Canaries would probably tick all your boxes, I would certainly go there alone, very safe and an older but very friendly crowd there. Most of the Greek islands would also both fine as would southern main land Spain, Mallorca and Ibiza if you go to the quieter resorts. Any questions just ask and I hope you have a lovely trip. Puz.

Haven't been but having looked at both as possible destinations for a family holiday (i.e. no partying!) two that cropped up were Santander and San Sebastien in the Basque Country. Ryanair fly to Bayonne/Biarritz which is a 1hr bus journey from San Sebastien and a 2hr drive from Santander.

Supposed to be a brilliant part of the world.

Other than that; Hvar and Dubrovnik are two of the more family/relaxed beach atmospheres in Croatia.

Thanks for the suggestions - will look into them! :)

From what I've read so far, Portals Nous in Majorca seems to be a good option. Very close to the airport, and nice and quiet, with good beaches. If anyone's ever been there, would be interested in hearing about your experiences!
