    It's the PDF dude.

    24 for army recruits.
35 for reserve recruits...unless you have specialist skills or have previous service.
    27 for cadetships.

Sorry didnt know it was PDF I always guessed it was IDF (Irish defence forces)..

I dont suppose you have any insider knowledge about what specialist skills they look for in the reserves? Hes in computer networks at the minute, but he said he would re-train if it got him into the PDF. The one thing he has going for him is that he has military life on the brain, he would join even if he was put on less then social welfare. He just talks and thinks about being a soldier 24/7.

He's gonna have to apply for the cadets if he wants a chance, so get him to start looking into it now, rather than when the cadetship competition opens.

And how would he do this? Just call into his local barrack is it? (which would be Aiken in Dundalk)

Mate if he wants to be an Officer, he'll have to be a big boy and go googling the info himself. But just to answer your question - no, no you dont call into a barracks. Info is online.

OK thanks. Im sure he has probably googled this stuff a million times. But I thought maybe somebody "in the know" would be able to give some advice that could help him stand out from the crowd. Thanks for the reply anyway :)
