The woman was trotting out a lot of nonsense. In fairness the guy representing the hunting lobby was also speaking s**te, he said that the antibloodsport crowd wanted us all to be vegans and were against medical research. Had to switch it off because they both sounded like bigoted twits and I had better things to do with my time.:(

Folks the antis will always try to ban the hunting of all animals whether we kill them for food or for control it don't matter to them. They are against us as we are of them an it won't ever end
I never listen to what they'd say to me
I was fishing other day and a passer by stopped to ask if we had any luck
Conversation turned to foxes and he seen one walk across the road that he feeds
He said he puts out scraps for them and he managed to get a fox take food from his hand
Of course I interrupted him and said in nice way of course ' are you an idiot'
    He said what?
I said you do realise they have no fear of humans now because of people like you feeding them scraps in urban areas and they are now thriving . Is it any wonder that child was attacked in England few weeks ago.
He blamed the child's parents for not watching their child
I said yeah maybe but fox showed no fear entering the house because people have fed it scraps and it now associates humans for food and if it continues they'll be dependant on humans for scraps and should people stop feeding them they will start to scavenge in gardens even if person is present and have no fear of them. A back door left open and smell of food a fox will go in fearless looking for easy meal
A suburban fox runs a mile if it spots a human and should remain so in urban foxes. There is a reason why we shoot downwind so it won't smell us as they'll run if they smell us
Urban foxes are not afraid of our smell

    Am I wrong?

We had a pack of wild dogs around here (rural kildare) 30 years ago - one alsatian, a collie and a lab, plus one smaller heinz 57. No-one fed them.
(Wild dogs will run from you the same way wild foxes will)

People being attacked by Baboons in South Africa,
Monkeys in Gibralter,Kangaroos and Dingoes in Austraila,Foxes in the UK,Coyotes ,bears and mountain lions in the US....
What have they all got in common??They are wild animals that have become accoustomed to human presence and equating humans with free and easy food. And if it isnt handed up,they attack .

Simple solution DO NOT FEED WILD ANIMALS!!!
But try and get this into the urbanite Bambiista's head that this isnt a smart thing to do ,and that these animals arent cute and cuddly is another thing altogether.

Heard the conversation on newstalk and the man that was representing the hunting side was about as useful as a chocolate frying pan as he wasnt staying on topic. Your not going to be able to stop people feeding these foxes. Itll take a bite on the hand to make people realise they are wild animals and not pets. Hopefully it wont be a child that gets hurt.

We have a problem with these wild cats in my area and my neighbor is feeding them every day. I told her that if they come in near my hens or if I come across them in the fields ill shoot them. The place is walking with them

Problem with wild cats coming around estates is if neighbours have cats and children often pet these cats then they will come up on a wild cat one day and perhaps try catch it and it'll attack a child. from my experience workin on a farm when I was younger on mid term breaks there was a few wild cats about the farmyard and these would hiss at you if you were bout 12 foot away and a child won't pay attention to a cat warning them to stay away and will do a lot of damage to a child's face
IMO feral cats are worse than a fox

I fully agree with you over feral cats. When it comes to them, I don't spare a thought.

How do you tell them apart from someones pet that's looking a big ragged and might be lost and a bit lairy? Talking about in the country here, not the town where they are a big problem.

1Any I ever saw would run from you like any wild animal, instantly. And I mean instantly. Same with wild dogs (feral probably correct term, actually)

2Usually found a long way from any human habitation (if that's possible, any more).

3Less reliable method, but i noticed they often had an enormous, bushy tail.

Now that you mention it, they do often have a mad bushy tail!
