I said on here that I didn't care for the first photos that were released of the new Auris and after seeing it in person, I simply cannot believe how ugly this thing is.

To look at it, I'd assume it was either designed by Hyundai or Kia. However, this notion has to be set aside as both companies have been making pleasing looking cars for at least the last 4 or 5 years.

Still trying to workout why Toyota make such bland looking cars and even more so, why the Irish market just keep lapping them up. However, this Auris goes beyond bland and enters the territory of simply awful looking. The full on rear view must be it's worst angle.

I too think its horrendously ugly (although its certainly not bland).

The Mk7 Golf is pretty ugly too, its all in the high, 90 degree rear end.

When was a Toyota anything else but bland?

I think the rear is actually similar to the hyundai i30.

I really disagree with anyone who says it is bland.

They took a chance and pushed the boundaries with it but it really hasn't paid off.

Its actually not that bad in the flesh. And as for people lapping them up, I've only ever seen 2 of them. Seen way more ford focus's with 131 regs and they're rotten inside and out.

    Its not bland btw.

    Adjective
Lacking strong features or characteristics and therefore uninteresting.

You said it "goes beyond bland"?

Interestingly the Auris and Corolla combined outsold the Focus by 99 units for January and February combined. Perhaps the figures to the end of March will be different. The Focus has sold 1159 units to the Auris's 839, which is quite a gap. When you break down the figures of the Focus, in actual fact, the hatchback has sold less than the Auris, but of course Ford do an estate (and surprisingly they've shifted 140 of those this year - a high proportion by Irish standards), which Toyota don't.

    @captain speed.

The high number of focus estates is due in part to the recent garda tender for service vehicles which has come in to effect.

I drove a 08 Auris petrol and it was full of horrid plastics

Ah now, the Focus is hardly "rotten" inside or out!! It would be my second choice in that class, looks-wise, after the new Golf! I quite like the Hyundai i30 too.

Looks wise the focus is definatly ugly in hatchback form. The Saloon version doesn't look too bad though imo.

Its the oversized , aimed at old people that might forget where it is, petrol cap that ruins it for me.

I find the interior of the new Auris horrid, don't like the angles on the dashboard at all and alot of the plastics still look cheap. There is a Auris estate on the way too btw.

To be honest there is very little in this market segment that will set the heart racing in the looks department except maybe the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and that's too left field for most Irish people.

there are a lot of focus estate garda cars after showing up in the last few months
