Very hard to find a healthy bar or snack. I've tried a few over the last few weeks and all have contained sugar.
Is there anything left without sugar any more!
It's very hard to find a completely healthy snack bar. The only sugar I want to be consuming should be from fruit.
I need complex cards and protein and some fats. Yet all I find are products with saturated fats and simple cards.
Even our brown bread is ****e here.
Are there any health bars left out there that don't contain ****e. :(

i know cyclists who make their own bars from oats, fruits etc. same goes for bread i suppose, make your own if you have time

Nuts, granola are good for you in small quantities. Majority of bars won't fill you or are just loaded with sugar. Make you own little trail mix and keep it bagged up so you can make it last.

Edit:there is a good protein bar recipe in the fitness forum I think.

have you tried the wholemeal ryvita - or the fox's wholemeal crackers.

    Wholemeal ryvita
Contains - Wheat,(Gluten) Sugar - Not to mention the fact they taste like cardboard that somebody shat on...

    Fox's wholemeal crackers
Contains - Wheat Bran,Invert Sugar Syrup - Again looks like something a dog would leave on the side of the foot path ..

Altho, i appreciate teddy's caught short, i think i'd almost rather starve than eat either ..

Make the bar's mentioned above and you'll be laughing ..

Not entirely healthy but you might enjoy 'em - go to your local Polish shop and see if they sell Sokolow Paluszky. They're small meat sticks that come 5 to a pack and taste delicious. Might be a bit salty though.

I seem to spend half my life munching on corn cakes. Some of them can be cardboard-y but for the most part they're lovely. Add some hummus if you're feeling adventurous!

Stick a carrot in your gob Teddy.

I mean that in a good way, carrots are good for you, they got vitamins and **** in them, .

maple sugar is basically a liquified white sugar and peanut butter contains sugar also. You can't get away from it. Maple syrup is deadly.

dude, dont be hate'n on the Peanut butter, it's quality for weight loss and muscle recovery, ok not half the jar in one go, but 10 - 15 grams a day is spot on..

The bread and jam on the other hands, sugar suicide !

peanut butter is loaded with bad fats and sugars - even if it is sugar free. Beware of substituting sweeteners as well - sweeteners are nearly more dangerous than sugar itself. White bread is a killer too. :D

its better to have a portion of natural nuts - i.e. nuts that have not been "processed" into something else.

and a portion of nuts - have you ever seen a portion - its about 15 nuts. who has ever stopped at 15 nuts. :D

not at all - rice cakes are poison. did you ever check the nutritional value. Its a major high glycemic product. Again its completely processed and extremely high in carbs. switch to wholemeal.

Sorry but that's a load of crap.

NATURAL peanut butter is mainly made up of with good fats ( poly- and monounsaturated fats) it's also a good source of protein, fiber and other nutrients such as niacin and vitamin E.

Natural peanut butter also doesn't contain any sugars/sweeteners that's why it's called NATURAL peanut butter.

OP, your best making your own bars/snacks if you want it to be healthy.

natural peanut butter DOES contain natural sugars - just as natural fruit also contains sugar. Whoever told you that it doesn't contain sugar is misleading you. Do you know how much of a portion of peanut butter is healthy? its a lot less than what gets spread on bread, making the fats deadly.

Where did I mention anything about natural sugars?

You do know what natural peanut butter is right?

Natural means non processed/ no added ingredients - which means no added sugar/sweeteners.
Natural peanut butter is made up of just whole peanuts.
There is NO sugar in peanuts.

You suggested Wholemeal ryvita and Fox's wholemeal crackers in an early post has a "healthy" snack...LOL :pac:

do some research before you start trying to defend yourself and dishing out advice on something that you clearly have very little or no knowledge of.

You need to learn the difference between fat's sugar's sucrose and fructose at a min fishy.

The fat in peanutbutter is as said, poly and mono, it's the good kid of fat, even saturated fat ( avacado's ) is good for you ..

Are you against peanuts, or just peanut butter?

Because the good peanut butter is 100% peanuts, with nothing else added. So it only ever has as much sugar/fat as eating the same weight of peanuts.

100g contains 580 Cals, 30g of protein, 12g of carbs (6g of which are sugar) and 46g of fat (8g of which are saturates).

It's a fairly low carb way of getting your daily protein and fat.

It may not be what you are looking for, you might be getting your daily fat intake from elsewhere. But dismissing it as full of sugar and deadly is just plain wrong. It's a superfood, as long as you don't eat too much of it (as with anything really).

yes natural means non processed and thats why I suggested that it would be better to have the portion of nuts - once something has been tampered with (processed) it releases natural sugars which can be just as harmful as added sugars because people tend to think that because it is natural sugar it is fine - its not fine, mostly because people would eat probably up to ten times what they are supposed to eat of the produced in its processed state - a no added sugar jam can contain up to 20 spoonfuls of sugar in its "natural" state - if you think thats good for you, then go ahead.

regarding your post saying "there is no sugar in peanuts" That is completely wrong.

Peanuts, which belong to the legume family but are commonly considered nuts, contain approximately 6 g of sugar per cup, according to the USDA. Tree nuts, including walnuts, pecans, almonds and hazelnuts, contain roughly 3 to 7 g of natural sugars per cup.

And that is BEFORE they get "processed" into peanut butter.

    But carry on....eat away ..:D:D

as far as wholemeal snacks - have a read up on wholemeal too. if you want that is. but if not, stick to the white bread, jam and peanut butter.

on the contrary.....people need to read up on sugars, sucroses, fructose and sweeteners - they will be (un) pleasantly surprised at the actual facts. People need to stop listening to the good sugars and bad sugars and actually learn how and what to eat properly.

Actually some sugars are better for you than others. Sucrose for example is a disaccharide, unlike glucose and fructose which are monosaccharide. This pretty much means the molecule is more complex and takes longer to break down, it isn't absorbed directly into the blood stream.

It's not much better for you, but you are still wrong. Which I find mightily amusing in someone so preachy and condescending.

ive don't plenty of research, thats why I can see when people have no idea about sugars, natural or otherwise :)

LOL what?Seriously have NEVER heard of that before  Can you post a link to an article/source to back this up and that will explain this?

    :pac:

Why do you keep bringing up jam ? who mentioned jam? Jam is laced with sugar even it is natural - as it would be made up of fruits(sugar). Fully aware of this. But thanks.

1 ounce(28g) which to me would be a portion of peanuts/ natural peanut butter(which just to clarify is the exact same as peanuts) contains 1g of sugar - that is sweet fu*k all.
Not to mention all the other health benefits peanut butter/peanuts has.

But you seem to think that having a Wholemeal ryvita or a Fox's wholemeal crackers is better and healthier for you then having a little peanut butter ... :pac::pac::pac:

so you please be the one carry on, eat away & enjoy your muck tasting cardboard, full of absolute crap (junk ingredients) crackers
