Spamhaus problem?

    Hi Guys.
My Eircom phone line developed a fault on 11th March 2013 so broadband down. The line is 60 years old and needs to be replaced.

Due to road opening licence issues I will be without fixed line internet till 19th April according to customer care.
My son has an O2 mobile internet device which I am currently using to successfully get internet and email.

My computer is a Macbook Pro using OSX 10.8.3 and my email program is Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.3.2.

I have no problem receiving emails but am unable to send emails as they are blocked by Spamhaus which indicates that the IP address of the mobile device is blocked. The following is a sample of the failure message with addressees email address and my current ip address removed.

    5.1.1 <emailaddress@internetprovider> Blacklisted by Spamhaus: http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=SONSMOBILEIPADDRESS";

I can send emails by logging on to Eircom webmail but this is cumbersome as my contacts are all on Outlook.

Has anyone any ideas for an Outlook workaround or do I just wait until my line is eventually fixed?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi bluezulu49

This issue could be in relation to the recent global cyber attack. Please follow this link to rte.ie for more details: http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0327/378711-cyber-attack/

Also, it may be worth checking that the correct incoming and outgoing server settings are applied as displayed below:

    Incoming Mail Server:
    webmail.eircom.net
    Outgoing Mail Server:
    mail1.eircom.net

    Kind regards

    Al

    No it's not

The problem is that you are trying to use eircom's outgoing mail servers to send mail while connected via O2; Eircom's mail server forbids you from doing this (for spam prevention reasons). You need to change your Outlook settings to send email via O2's outgoing mail server instead.

According to http://community.o2online.ie/t5/Broadband-and-3G-Coverage/SMTP-settings-for-an-O2-email-account/td-p/87636 the server to use is "smtp.o2.ie". Note that you should not change the server for incoming(/POP3/IMAP) mail, just for outgoing/SMTP mail.

When your eircom connection is back up and running you will need to change the SMTP/outgoing server back to mail1.eircom.net.

Talk to O2. The ip address is blacklisted by Spamhaus. The error message above will give you instructions

Many thanks World. Changing to "smtp.o2.ie" for outgoing mail works fine.

Sorry for delay in replying - son away with modem so could not test till now!.
