Company pay rises

With all the doom and gloom that has been present over the past few years , pay cuts , down sizing , closures. Has anyone actually got a pay rise either by having to force one or by the company just giving a pay increase to staff be it 1 or 5 percent.

I would imagine that accross board rises have only occured in private companies if at all?

On the other scale has anyone had to take a pay cut?

Have you received a pay rise in the past 2 years? 90 votes

Where's the option for "Yes, without asking for it"?

I have, mainly because it would cost them more to find somebody else if i left, not because of merit.

90% of people are going to fall into one of three categories:

    1. Unprompted pay increase
    2. No change
    3. Unprompted pay decrease

And you've left two of these options out of the poll. Fail.

    Worst poll options ever.

Pay goes up every year but the budget usually hits me with PRSI,New Taxes, benefits down etc so I normally end up with less between Jan and June then up a little till the next Budget , then back to square one :(

Payrise in kind. My Lynx is being upgraded to Jaguar.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Where's the "got let go then re-hired in a new position with slight pay increase" option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭Shenshen

Well, I didn't really have to ask for it, but I moved to a new position with more on my paycheck.

In the company I worked for in Ireland there was a pay freeze for 4 years and still is I think. Then I spent a year in Oz and am back contracting for the same company again. I am on 50% more than I was before I left, but now I have to look after my own holidays, sick pay etc. Still come out much better off though... That count?

10% rise the last two Christmases, but I'd imagine that'll slow down once I've a few years experience.

    What year is this, 2003??

Well I got one last year but there's been no talk of it yet this year, getting a bit worried.

I cannot see an option for my situation.

Increased workload as 2 people left and I have been given their work to do but no increase in pay to reflect this.

Oh, never had a pay rise since starting 3 years ago either

I got One yesterday. But I didn't fight for it and it was'nt an across the board rise. Thats not an option above.

I was just given a payrise and a new contact because I apparently deserved it

Yeah, twice. Once just an annual rise for performance and once because of promotion.

Wages are on the way up on average.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/salaries-rising-again-as-private-sector-workers-enjoying-higher-increases-than-public-service-28939956.html

The higher PS average pay all along would be due to there being about 300,000 largely full time workers as against about 1.5 million private sector workers with many part timers.

After reading that, should do a poll on how many people are on €22 ahour!

In the last 5 years my wages have increased by 40%. But in real terms it's worked out at an extra hundred a month.

I'll get the standard 3% this year. I might be able to afford an extra packet of biscuits every second week.
