Hi i'm looking for some tips on holidaying in Mauritius. we are a couple thinking of going in June for 2 wks. Not sure what side of island to stay in east or west.
Also, most accomadation seems to have a range of onsite restaurants & bars, but it would be nice to venture elsewhere to eat etc in the evenings. any advice welcomed:)

Hate to rain on your parade but it's not really the kind of place where you can venture out for different restaurants every night. It is very much a resort based destination as it is a very poor country.

We stayed in the Heritage (which if I remember correctly is on South West coast) for the last week of our honeymoon in May 2008. Also June is in the middle of their winter so I wouldn't expect the weather to be great.

The best beaches are in the north west to north east of the country. The west part is also fine but limited to only a few beaches where you would enjoy swimming. The island is good for sun and sea and has few places to visit. There are some shopping centre in the cities. Although life is expensive there, it is among the richest country in Africa. People are friendly enough.
