I got caught speeding in january by a traffic van. Anyway I paid the fine and got a letter telling me that I had two penalty points.

However yesterday I got a letter n the post refunding my €80, it was signed by two superintendants. Why was this money refundedto me? Do I still have penalty points?

Do you happen to have the same name as a politician?

    And no explanation? Odd.

I'd ensure that the RSA are aware of the retraction by the Gardai aswell though.

I have no political links and lets be clear I was speeding. Where can I check my penalty points?

Call the RSA with your licence number to hand.

Could have been something as simple that the van's camera turned out to be out of calibration?

Begs the question how many people were wrongfully given points..I'm sure this is not an isolated case

It really can't have been an isolated case, at least not with anyone caught by this van - but it is encouraging that the fine has been refunded proactively. They could have done nothing and the people caught wouldn't have a clue.

A friend of mine received a letter he was caught speeding in Victoria Quay. Few days later he received another letter saying it was a mistake. It does happen from time to time

Understood but how many vans are out there out of calibration....I'm sure lots considering they don't require a certificate AND can't be challenged by law on this...ridiculous tbh
