    hi lads
just about to sign a tasty sounding deal for a zxr 400
good condition bike as i seen and used it when the guy im getting it off was riding
im not worried about it being dodgy or anything, but the head gasket is going/just gone.is it a pricey fix?
and as im new to insured, roadworthy bikes, is there many mechanics in /around laois?
getting the bike VERY cheap.and apart from the head, the only other things wrong are a cracked fairing and a few scratched fairings

    cheers

Well if the head is gone, its not worth buying unless you can do the work yourself. You'll need to remove the seat, tank, airbox, exhaust(assuming it doesn't fall apart or worse break a stud) coolant, carbs, rocker cover, camchain tensioner, camshafts and then the head. Then if the head doesn't need to be skimmed, you need new coolant, head gasket and exhaust gaskets and put it all back together.
Probably better off just getting another bike. They go fairly cheap anyhow.
