what kind of oats are used here? never saw such in any grocery stores. Thinking to make my own version with those kind of oats. any idea where do I buy them or can I make them at home? are they healthy than normal rolled oats that we use for porridge? bought Paddy's granola thinking of those but they are of different texture any ways.

Natural Vally bars use normal rolled oats, just look and taste different because they laced and dried and in sugar(Maltose corn syrup/honey)

even for the chewy trial mix? crunchy version seems to be using rolled oats but wasn't sure about chewy ones

It says whole grain oats and I think whole grain oats are different than rolled oats, I think rolled oats are processed while whole grain are not, so as you said above they are soaked with all that sweet treats :p Wonder if they are healthy now with all that sugar

There's nothing healthy about them. They're just oat flavoured sugar bars

"Whole grain oats" or "whole oats" just means that the grain is all there, not de-hulled or anything like that.
Rolling, cutting, grinding or similar processes don't change grains from being wholegrain. Rolled oats can be whoelgrain, even instant oats can be whole grain.

    Hi lads

Had a Nature Valley - Crunchy Oats & Dark Chocolate bar earlier and loved it. I'm trying to cut down on sugary snacks (timeouts/kit-kats etc), and while I know these bars are still sugary, are they a decent replacement?

    Weekday intake would be:

Breakfast: 2 slices of Soda Bread w/ light butter (spread) & stawberry jam.
Lunch: Soda bread sandwich w/ lettuce, light coleslaw & cold chicken/chicken tikka/turkey etc
Dinner: Normal dinners like Chicken Stir Fry etc. . .

I know there's a bit too much bread in my diet, but I'm happy with that as it's the easy option. But as a snack, are those Nature Valley bars I listed above a good snack (without being awful for you)?

I'd want to have them while out golfing with a banana and water. Maybe a good before/after gym snack?

    Cheers

They're processed and high sugar. Probably better than a biscuit, not as good as a piece of fruit. It's overall diet that matters rather than individual items in isolation (nothing inherently wrong with bread imo).

fwiw I'd often have nature valley bars as my on bike snack (well the aldi version of nature valley). Maybe something slower release carbs would be better for golf, unless it was a pick me up fairly near the end? I was fat and unhealthy (and rubbish) when I played golf, so it would've been around the 14th I'd begin to feel it!
