Hi all. I was thinking of going to Trabolgan next week (3 nights) with the wife and 2 girls (6 &4), however with the weather being so miserable I'm having second thoughts. Would I be mad?! We went 2 years ago and had a great time but it was Easter 2011 when the weather was fantastic. Any opinions or alternatives for a few days away would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Why not go somewhere nice like killarney, plenty to do and loads of lovely walks. Just wrap up warm..Not a particularly big fan of Trabolgan I have to say!

Thanks DAZP93, I would quite fancy that but I don't think the kids would be too keen!, we are looking for somewhere with plenty for the kids (playground, swimming pool, kids disco etc) a bit of entertainment and somewhere where we have a bit of space and aren't cramped in a hotel room. I will look at Killarney later in the year though.

    Are you crazy?

Killarney is the most over rated, suck up to americans tourist crap, town in the country.

We went to Trabolgan last year and it was brilliant. OP, ignore that person, the kids will be bored to death in Killarney...in Trabolgan they can do literally hundreds of things. It's also pretty reasonable with loads to do for adults too.

You have to have something wrong with you if you prefer Trabolgan over Killarney. I'm not sure where you are from but in Cork it is known for drawing every skanger in the county.. The on site casino says it all. Saying that I would agree with the OP that the likes of Trabolgan is better suited to young familys..

What about these places..They are superb!

The OP is thinking of going next week...I think it will be quiet enough.

You must think we live in a country where people have money. The OP is clearly an exception. He'll be grand.

I mightn't go as far as that in describing the town but it sure is a shock to the system the first time you go there. The whole town is full of shops selling junk 'Oirish' souvenirs aimed at US tourists.

It's easy to see why the British tourists stay in Co. Cork!

Hi OP, was there last year and it rained all week, but we had a great time, plenty of indoor activities for the kids.

Must say, completely disagree with the Killarney comments. Of course the place is full of things for tourists sure, it's popular for that sure! But I think you're being over dramatic indeed! I was in Trabolgan today, I mean It's a nice spot and much improved from when I was there a few years ago, my only problem is the wind and cold, it's on the coast It was a bad enough day to be fair.
I love Killarney! Muckross is fantastic! By far the nicest part of Ireland, truly is, used to get down there alot, need to go again soon. Or do the model farm walk in Muckross! :)

Hi all, we ended up going to Trabolgan last year and had a ball, was hoping to get away for Easter again this year but Trabolgan is working out at over €450. Can anybody recommend somewhere specific in Ireland for Easter that's very child friendly(7 & 5) that isn't going to break the bank please?! Thanks

Keep an eye on the deals websites - Trabolgen frequently have offers on:

This one is for the May bank holiday weekend - 4 nights €300

For something different you could try Westport house , you can stay here with a caravan or camper, or there are a few hotels nearby doing cheap overnight rates.
