just few dairy nuts/barley/cheap ration.. as little as possible with the price of it.. if silage is tight you could bulk it out with sugar beet pulp nuts.. wet them overnight and you have a huge barrel of feed for mixing with barley or nuts or both

2kg of a dairy nut/meal would do.... or maybe 3kgs of barley straights

we gave them 2kg of a beef nut for a few weeks before they left to put a bit of condition on them for their day out.

others might have an opinion on a maize meal type concentrate?

If you're looking for something fairly cheap, ask your mill what type of fodder stretcher they have. Most are doing a mix this year and while your cows won't get really fat on it, it will keep them steady and stretch out the silage while still getting enough feed and minerals into them.

Dairy nuts are a bit expensive to be giving to sucklers unless you want them to produce more milk?
