HTC Desire Problem, Vodafone Won't repair

I have sent away my HTC Desire to be repaired as there was a fault with the hardware (Phone won't turn on or charge). Being only 2 months old it was still under warranty so I wasn't worried.

However on getting it back I was told since there is a small crack in the screen it is their policy to repair the whole phone, which would cost me £90. I have looked up the fault I am getting and apparently it is common with this phone, I have also contacted bill pay cust. care which have told me I am entitled to a repair/replace/refund as I was sold a faulty phone and it is not the crack I want fixed.

The retail shop has told me, when I asked for the manager, that since there is physical damage my warranty is not valid. I've been on bill pay for about a year and am not entitled to an upgrade but I am far from happy with the help being given..

Am I best off getting this repaired locally? Or following up on this as there is a crack on the screen but i'm positive it has no effect on the actual phones performance

    Tough call,

If it is a manufacturing defect they should repair it under guarantee, if you can print out a few internet examples that would help a lot...

They can refuse to repair it if the screen is damaged, as they can say that's physical damage and not want to touch it for their sake...

Can you get the phone into the boot loader? (Take out battery, hold volume down key and power on from there?)

If you can you may be able to factory reset the phone from there, using up and down volume keys to navigate and power to select, but you will lose all your data on the phone, so maybe take your stuff off your SD card beforehand....

Try cleaning out the USB connection and see if you can charge it again. A good few end up with dirt in then and charger gets a poor connection.
