DOE and Motor Tax Issue?

I sent off my motor tax renewal with the DOE cert from the test centre in the envelope provided in the renewal notice. Anyway, it's been lost in the post. So now I've no DOE Cert, or tax.

I rang the tax office and they tell me that I can go to the DOE centre and get a photocopy of the cert, but only if the DOE was done in the past four weeks will the tax office accept a photocopy. It wasn't, it was done last September. So I told them this, and the tax office said that I'll now have to do a new DOE to get a new cert. Even though I have a current DOE, valid until Sept 2013!

Has anybody had any experience with this? It's crazy that I should need to do a new test when I already have one!

We have had a few people back for doe tests for the same reason, seems to be accross the board they are only accepting photocopies for a month, some used to accept them as long as it was in date but they all seem to have stopped

Rang the tax office again there, it finally made its way to them so I'm ok!

Lesson learned all the same, last time I'll be renewing my tax by post.
