I have a 2005 honda accord 2.2 ctdi, only have it a week but just wondering what people think of the steering in it??? i find mine a little light and slightly moving when doing most major turns.

Does anyone have any advice on this or is it just the steering the accord has???

Yeah Dan, you'll get used to it pretty quickly.

I think it's because we have electronic power steering as opposed to hydraulic power steering.

    HTH.

    Do you have same thing???

Turning on roundabouts slightly kicks back or moves slightly? Aslong as nothing is wrong with it then that's not too bad but will take time to get used of

have you checked tyre pressure? also Accords are very specific on 4 wheel alignment (camber, caster and toe).

any place that does 4 wheel alignment, NOT basic alignment. Honda Accords are very peculiar on this matter.

you might have to do some searching but i'm sure a place in Dublin does it., you should get a print out after showing your readings and off set results before and after the alignment.

also since you have a diesel look after it well, you need to use the right oil (crucial) and let it idle for a wee bit each time you finish a trip. :)

That model Accord are hydraulic steering. The current generation is electric.

The alignment seems to be almost impossible to get right on either model.....no matter who or what alignment I get done on mine.....steering wheel always slightly to right and slight pull to left. Same with the last model. That said, the alignment was perfect on mine when I got it but after a tyre change/realignment nobody can seem to get it right....I'm very fussy about the steering wheel being centred though.

What have you driven before now?
Some of the newer systems feel a bit weird compared to plain old hydraulic.
Her electro-hydraulic steering (BMW mini) has a noticeable "kick in", you can feel it and see it (if your battery is not A1 the lights will dip slightly with the big current draw of the steering).

I was driving a newish transit with stability control and the steering was fighting me big time as I was taking tight slip roads (maybe a little fast haha).

Maybe driving another Accord similar to yours would be worth a shot?
Try disabling Traction Control or ESP (careful now!) and driving the same roundabout?

I've turned into somewhat of an expert on this with my Accord and I have to say the Accord's a fuppers to align correctly. Only the toe is adjustable, but even if you're within specification it'll still pull left/right.

If you're getting lighter movements (7 gen diesel Accord has hydraulic PAS, only a 2.0 SE has EPS for a while) then get a suspension check. Check for:

    1. Compliance bushes
    2. Ball joints
    3. Upper Control Arms
    4. Tie Roads
    5. Shocks

don't know if the suspension of the diesel is different but the system on the CL9 is a bit over kill. too many bushes, arms and whatnot. No wonder they are a pain in the nut to align properly.

The Honda garage haven't heard of a suspension check before? Oh dear :(

Anyway, you don't say where you are in Dublin, but if you are near Drumcondra, I recommend Atlas - these are good independents. Call them up and explain the problem you're having and ask for a suspension check.
